Equal pay for equal service

Every public sector worker wants equal pay for the same workers doing the same job.

But decent landlords can't charge the same rent for identical properties.

Nurses want (and deserve) a 12% rise but the lefty unions have no issues limiting the decent landlords income raise to 4%.

Next the bus/train/Luas drivers will have their hands out again.

Shame landlords can't go on strike.

Two houses side by side can have different rents with no way of aligning them or without the LL taking a hit

There are a number of ways of aligning them. One could be reduced. One could be substantially refurbished or taken off the market for an adequate period of time.

Of course the situation outlined there could exist prior to the imposition of RPZs.

It's also not the case that two properties side by side would have landlords who, as in OPs title, provide an equal service.

Well this is an exceptionally dumb thread.

If nurses were guaranteed a 4% rise every single year do you think they'd be on strike?

    https://www.inmo.ie/salary_information

    year 1 it's 6%
    year 2 it's 3.4%
    year 3 it's 3.7%

Fair enough. Maybe we should set up some public body to decide exactly what rent rate landlords are allowed to charge for their property, to ensure they are all exactly the same. We could set a rate for 3 beds, a rate for 4 beds, and so on.

It's an interesting proposition from the OP.

Of course, the complaint that landlords cannot go on strike is total bollocks. They are welcome to sell their properties or leave them empty if they want to make a point. Nothing stopping them. :)

They're also welcome to avail themselves of the courts service if they feel like they are being trodden down by the overbearing communist government. But none of them have done that either.

Or may be just allow the market rate, which is also how many nurses are paid.

So they cant strike? Nurses can quit their jobs too. Landlords tried organise (unionise) but this wasn't tolerated.

If nurses had got equivalent increases to the increases in rent over recent years, they definitely wouldn't be on strike. They'd all be driving to work in their Mercs from the mansions they'd bought with their vastly increased salaries.

But if you want to 'strike' and leave your property empty, go right ahead.

Impossible because you cant just evict people at a moments notice.

Plenty of landlords advertising to fill properties at any given time - if strike is a good idea, surely they can all 'strike' tomorrow and leave their properties empty to teach those damn nurses a lesson - off you go now, make up a few placards and walk up and down outside your empty property and see where that gets you.

Equal pay really means equal pay scales.

No teacher or Nurse expects the same pay in their first year after graduation as the person who has 15 years experience.

However if we take teachers who started post 2011 - their pay at 1, 5 or 10 years will be less then those on pre 2011 payscales at all those time periods.
