Q: Large cooker switch (2 gang size) v small cooker switch (1 gang size)...any reason why one is fitted instead of another for a single oven 16A? Contractor has mentioned fitting the larger one....just wondering...

It's easier to fit and terminate the cables into the larger box.

So simply ease of fitting as opposed to any reg/safety reason?

There's no reason not to use a single gang one.

However you could argue that you'd get a better connection with a bigger box.

If it's only 16 amps a 20 amp double pole switch (a good make) would do, the breaker would need to be 20 amps too
