Is Larmour going to be all that much better?

He'll cover the space better than Henshaw is now. It's easy pickings for England to kick to Henshaw and they end up hovering up territory.

England have overpowered us.It will be hard to turn it around.

England deserving of their lead. Ireland slow to start again in the 6 Nations. Sexton needs to drop a bit deeper sometimes and drop the ball in behind their defence. England’s line speed has been phenomenal today and we aren’t finding answers to it.

    Pack macking no yardage.

Ref gave England 3 points at the end there. Loads of the lineouts from either side were not straight throughout the game. How come all of a sudden he calls against Ireland near their try line?

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,863 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

    Seriously worried here...

England line speed is very quick as they are winning the collisions too easy and meeting us behind the gain line practically every time.

Daly is poor at 15 but we are not threatening him at all.... Farrell is bombing onto Earls.... And running henshaw all over the pitch.

    Sexton has been poor

Henshaw struggling with his positioning. Murray still not looking back to his best. Earls also struggling.

Decision making has been poor on the field. Think we willl see a different Ireland team second half. This England team will leak penalties if we can start to gain parity in the contest area.

    England playing smart though.

Stander left South Africa because he was told he's not big enough to be an 8. Kind of looking like that today. Marked man and targeted today and at this level head down with zero sophistry is not going to cut it.

So no try. But England still allowed go for 3 points?

What a pain in the arsé.

The rules of advantage. Are you new to the game?

English are packing the midfield and rushing. Wingers are hanging back for kicks and advancing once pass from oh is confirmed. We need to start using inside strike runners off sextons inside shoulder hitting between the ruck and the midfield group. We have players to punch holes there and that should slow their line or allow us to gain cheaper yardage.

Elliott Daly getting the run of the park. Great game from him.

Billy V got a full head of steam and it took Stander and O'Mahoney around 7 meters from point of contact to get him down. He has an incredible weight to speed ratio and is so hard to stop.

They are building scores and territory in a way that is not repeatable for 80 minutes. We'll have a good deal more patches in the second and provided we are clinical and inventive we'll put England away.

They are playing well though - much more like the 2016 version of themselves and this is a big test for Ireland. When Jones has his big gainline breakers his limitations are far less exposed.

Ireland are going to strangle this game now and if they are ruthless then the bookies spread is on the cards.

A bit of a reality check in a way

People think we just have to show up in Japan and get to a semi final. Not on this current display

I knew England would be up for this and they are playing well. We're making stupid errors but still in the game

Let's see how good we really are

A half of rugby where England have been on top and Standers suddenly not up to this level

He's regularly steamrolled players at this level since he started playing for Ireland

England really targeting earls today in every way. Stockdake unlucky with the bounce. Henshaw not a full back positioning wise.

Murray is kicking possession away far too often.

Matt Williams calling out Henshaw's position for second try.

    He's struggling.

Couple of lads looking a bit nervous out there, England with more intensity as well.

Need to get the next score and cut out the basic errors.

    Honestly?
Best 8 in our country, by a distance

    Look what he’s done previously.

Rugby can be a simple game. England really, really want this. Like we wanted to beat them here 2 years ago to stop a slam.

Now we're the big shots on the receiving end from the passionate underdog.

Hyperbole, no one thinks that way..... Literally no one

However should you expect the team ranked #2 in the world to reach the semis..... Yes you should.

Rubbish. Whole pack are losing collisions. Are they all too small so? Cj is actually one of the few who is making hard yards.

We are losing because of individual errors from our back three.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,225 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

We're just 7 points behind are we're at home. We should still feel like we can win this. England have conceded a lot of penalties and there are opportunities to gain field position. But if we keep running straight to their rush defence we'll lose. Need to be more inventive in how we play.

Also need to see Murray and Sexton control this game more. We've played far more in the backs than I thought we would. While it's good trying to develop an all court game our halfbacks are still our greatest strength. They've been outplayed by Young's and Farrell. That's not good at all.

    Owen Farrell has been great.
Billy V is a difference maker. Head and shoulders above the other 8's.
Hopefully, they tire and we can make some inroads.
    C'mon the lads!!!!!

No, you should not expect it...

There’s a whole lot more to it than just a current world ranking..

Murray is kicking possession away far too often.

His box kicks are one of the few things we have done well

I think we will be much improved in the 2nd half. Whether that will be good enough to win, I'm not sure as England are playing well

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,863 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

Completely..... We're getting hit behind the line practically every time.

If anything, we're running too much from our own half

Hope I'm saying different at full time but at the moment Henshaw at 15 looks a really bad call from Joe. He has 3 other good full backs in the squad so don't understand the need to take that risk

I doubt if England will keep this intensity up though. If after 60 mins within 4 point I think we’ll do it.

Furlong, Healy..all the pack have been quiet. Why pick on Stander?

Van der Flier probably most prominent. It's an 80-85 min game. 23 players. This is interesting.

Earls off. Must be an injury.

    I'd go 15 Larmour, 14 Ringrose 13 Henshaw

That could be the worst half of rugby I've seen from this team in some time. Lots of mistakes and letting the English win at the ruck too easily.
I'd expect a much better second half, even with that it'll be hard to beat this English side who deserve a lot of credit.
