Mira 88 temperature control stuck

Hi folks, I’m trying to get a shower back in use after a long period of inactivity. It’s a Mira 88, pump shower, at least 15 years old and the issue is that it will only supply cold water as the temperature gauge is stuck.

I can turn on the water but when I attempt to moderate the temperature it is stuck to the water flow gauge and switches the water off altogether.

Do I give it a blast of WD40 or do I need to take out the mechanism and replace the parts? I looked at the Shower Doctor site and it has parts for this shower.

The Shower Doctors are very expensive for Mira parts. Davies in Harmonstown, Dublin 5 are usually cheaper.

Most likely the cartridge needs replacing. Unlike most cartridges that come in one part the cartridge for this has many parts. If the cartridge comes apart you might have a difficult job putting it all back together.

I no longer repair cartridge showers & pass this ty of work onto another plumber. Most plumbers don't just buy the cartridge. For a little extra you can get the whole front piece. This allows you to break the old one to get at the cartridge itself and you have the added bonus of it looking like a new shower when done.

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking as My own plumber seems reluctant to do the job. I’ll check out Davies.

I'll PM you the plumber I pass these jobs onto. You can ring him if you need someone
