The short answer is that you can leave it in normal or eco mode and let it do it’s thing and not worry about it.

    Thanks....

    Pretty much as I thought....

I know some of the newer PHEV will monitor the up coming road and swap between modes to maximise the battery? I guess the Outlander doesn't have this yet?

Hate to tell you but your mechanic hasn't really a clue what he/she is talking about.

VW eGolf has done 80k km's and battery was same condition as when the car left plant....loads of other information around.....

Aren't tesla's not up over 100k? And 80k isn't much going at all to be judging the longitivity of a battery off

Sorry I made a mistake, it was American who posted it so it was 80k miles, not km's

The point was made that a car after 6/7 years was useless

Even after 80k miles which would be 5+ years with a standard person driving the battery has shown no degradation.....how many miles in total will you get out of it based on that??? 300k miles?

A Tesla has done over 675k km on a battery without requiring a swap out, how many people are going to do 675k km in 6/7 years....the point is not the price of the car but that a battery doesn't die after 6/7 years.

    The mechanic is talking rubbish

Looks like for short run you are getting the most out of the plug in with great economy in fairness for that 1st trip. That a good use case for a PHEV I agree.

The second one though, if I’m reading this right you drove at avg speed of 62 kmph on the motorway and yielded just 39.5mpg? I presume traffic was v heavy but with a clear run driving at 120kmph it’s not going to near that level is it- ie it’s basically a 2.4 petrol naturally aspirated 2 tonne suv

There was some driving around town in the morning followed by a trip down the country and back, which would explain the average speed. Motorway was done on cruise control @ 70mph. I would do this trip maybe once a fortnight. My old Auris Hybrid would do ~55 mpg long term average. The Outlander is more like 85mpg.

Outlander will run on EV up to 75mph. Any more (or if you kick down to overtake) then the engine is clutched into the drivetrain to give you extra power.

Can you press a switch to not let the engine cut in?

Is it quick 0-60mph in EV mode?

Or is it a good bit slower than when engine kicks to help?

Any idea what bhp electric motor is giving in EV only mode ( can only see it makes circa 200bhp in total, hard to figure out breakdown of it's 2.4l engine and electric motor figures )

Does it have the 7/8 year Mitsubishi warranty? Electric drivetrain and battery is 8 year?

    Did you buy from UK?

Still covered with 7/8 year warranty?

Sorry for all the questions, it's an interesting motor with it's 40km battery range

Nope. The new one has an EV switch. I’m not 100% sure how well it works

No idea TBH. If the engine kicks in for fast acceleration then it will disengage soon after. If you are looking for a car that’s Fast to 60 then you’re looking at the wrong car. Overtaking speed is more relevant to me and it overtakes with ease.

It’s faster when the engine kicks in. It only kicks in when you demand more than can be provided on EV alone

160hp on EV. 202 with engine and EV.

    Did you buy from UK?
Imported by a dealer here. Was previously owned my Mitsubishi UK. Probably a courtesy car for the factory. Had very low mileage.

Still covered with 7/8 year warranty?
    Warranty is EU wide
Sorry for all the questions, it's an interesting motor with it's 40km battery range

    No worries.
