Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looking around at a few cars for sale recently, mostly private sales, they have service book stamps from main dealers but little beyond that to back up what actual work was done with detailed receipts.

If I called the dealer in question would they give me a full breakdown of the last jobs done or would GDPR and/or their need to keep you locked in to them prevent them from disclosing the actual jobs done at last service?

I suppose nothing in it for them so they might just say no? From my point of view I'd want to know if it was a basic or full service and know what should be done next.

I tried this with Audi and they said they'd only give that info to the reg'd owner.

    GDPR issues these days?

I have contacted dealers here and UK before, years ago, and all were happy to confirm details.

Perhaps get owner to speak to garage on phone and give them permission to confirm history for you?

What's the point of these electronic only service records if they can't be verified by potential purchasers other than suiting the dealer network, I bet if you tried to trade it in to a different dealer of the same brand they have access to your info!

It helps keep the records central, assists in warranty claims especially out of warranty good will and if you are travelling abroad because its proof you have maintained the Vehicle the way you should have. its easy to get a copy, just ask for it every time you get something done or if you are selling it just ask for the full history by email. Anytime iv been asked for it its gone out the same day so there really is no issue.

    Digital service books are great

Don't ring saying you are looking at a car. Ring saying you have bought the car and want to get it serviced and checked over and can they check what it is due to have done at x miles as you are looking to book it in.

I tried this with Audi and they said they'd only give that info to the reg'd owner.

I was verifying when the timing belt was last done at former audi garage in limerick.
I got that response from the girl behind the counter.
I snapped back that i was the registered owner.
She had no problem giving the information without verifying if i was the owner.
That particular dealer was known not to be very helpful in general.
The spares department refused to sell me oil and a filter for the car as they were no longer audi dealers
