    Hi,

Just before I take into a garage, looking to find out if someone has experienced something similar and if they have a fix.

I get a Red warning light showing the car on a ramp and the handbrake sign stays on all the time. Only happened today.

Car only passed its NCT two weeks back with a little work done which included rear drop link replacement and wheel alignment.

    Its a 2005 BMW 1 Series.

Is this something serious or ?

    Car starts and drive fine.

    Thanks

Check the brake pads both front and rear, if they are fine its likely a faulty wear sensor or the wear indicators haven't been reset.

Also check the brake fluid is the correct level.

Break Fluid is fine as its just below the max line. The brake pads are ok as well as it was in the garage two weeks ago they would have pointed it out if they were worn etc. Only got them replaced last Feb and car has had only 3K Kms since.

How good is the hand brake at holding the car on an incline?

It could well be the ABS/DTC control module, they were flaky enough on BMWs of that vintage with many of them needing to be replaced or reconditioned. But this is just guess work and very unlikely you will get it diagnosed on the internet. You need to get the car plugged into a diagnostic computer and the fault codes read to indicate where the problem lies.
