Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If the ABS + EBD lights are on going in to the NCT will they refuse to carry out the NCT (or maybe just the brake part of the NCT) or will they carry out a full NCT and fail it on the ABS + EBD lights?

    Moved out from old thread
Possibly they will test brakes and fail if brakes do not fall within specs.

I'd say to have car tested anyway, unless you have time to fix the issues that causes the lights.

The only place you can trust - the manual, agrees

    http://www.rsa.ie/Documents/NCT/New%202018/NCT%20Manual%202018.pdf
    Antilock brake system (ABS)
(k). Malfunction indicator light not working, not going through the correct
sequence or indicates any kind of failure of the system.
(l). System indicates failure via the electronic vehicle interface.

    Thanks all.

Sounds like they will test the car fully?

This is really what I was looking for. I understand they will fail it for the Abs light, but if they carry out a full test it will be apparent if other issues including any other braking issues are present.

They will test everything - they don't stop at the first problem they find.

I had similar prob a few years ago on an old celica gt4 . THe ABS light always stayed on as some previous owner had disconnected or meddled in some way with the abs , but brakes were fine apart from the light and no actual abs on the car .
NCT mechanic told me he just needed to see the lights come on at startup and then go out .

So took Dash out and ran a wire so abs light is connected to engine managment light , so on startup all lights light then go out . job done .

i realise its not a fix for everyone..

    It's not even a fix
It a way to trick the NCT tester your car is in good shape, when it is not.
