Redundancy situation

I’ve recently been given notice that the company I work for is about to cease trading and “will apply to go into liquidation after that time”.
They say they’re not in a position to pay statutory redundancy and I will have to apply to the liquidator when he is appointed. Nor will they give me the name of the liquidator.
I would greatly appreciate any advice, is this normal?
