Munster play Treviso this weekend and then nothing until Feb 20th, so he would appear to be banned for only one match?

He misses the Ireland Wales match too

He's eligible to play for Ireland, so week one of the 6N counts.

A solid indication that he has just penned a 10 year extension with the IRFU.

Does that apply to any "qualified" player regardless of their likelihood of selection for an Irish squad?

Hopefully just the usual kite flying, better than Thornley's comment that he's retiring.

This makes more sense of Kleyn's ban ending on the 15th.

Don't like that, bans should be for competitive games

Yes. Jean Kleyn was definitely playing in that game.
How do they fall for this.

Just make bans applicable to Pro14, EPCR and full internationals. Simple.

Equally I don't see an issue in suspended players being involved in friendly games in order to maintain match fitness.

    I'm sorry but that's a joke.

The Pro14 is a shambles and the sooner CVC chop it up and sell it for parts, the better.

Well the "oh he was going to play in this meaningless game" has been used before in various competitions.

The best one was a Wallaby who was apparently going to play for his Sydney club on the weekend between two tests.

Anyway, on its own merits it's a poor look.

I can't remember that one. Yikes.

The other one that comes to mind was Marler getting, what, a 9 week ban but not missing any games? Unprecedented situation I suppose last March, but even so, it's just not in the spirit of things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,134 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

    Here's further reasoning from Kinsella

"PRO14: "A games and friendly games during international windows aimed at preparing first-team players are judged by unions and disciplinary panels/officers as meaningful matches, for example club/community/semi-pro games, would not be counted as such.""

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,135 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

So what we're saying here is that it's not just a Pro14 issue and that it happens all across the rugby world?

It's good to see Munster learning a few tricks from the NZRU. It's not their fault that the Welsh don't have the smarts for these sort of shenanigans.

    Oh but they do

The Pro14 pointed out that a suspension involving George North in September saw the Ospreys v Scarlets pre-season game counting towards his ban, and said the same applies for Sam Lousi’s ban in October/November where Scarlets A’s game against Dragons (16 October) was accepted as a meaningful game.

So that Welsh twat complaining on Twitter should just STFU.

The pro14 is no different than any other league with this, remember Marler's ban running during the first wave of covid when all matches were cancelled?? Or Sonny Bill Williams' including a mid week training match during the lions tour? The top 14 regularly have joke shop citings/hearings too. Whole system needs to be overhauled by world rugby.

Edit: oops, sorry, I see you yourself have already linked the Sonny Bill Williams one

I think Munster could do with a bit more guile coming from the centres and fullback. Daly is possibly somewhat better as a playmaker at the back than Haley, and having Earls's fast feet in the centre could work well in the space de Allende could create for him. Earls probably doesn't touch the ball enough in tight big games when he's out on the wing. They could bring him in to the centre to get more out of him - a bit like Radradra has been playing 13 in union rather than wing so he gets on the ball more.

Contract season seems to be finally in full flow for the Munster lads, 1st CJ to Bordeaux and now JJ to Lyon

One thing that has been clearly established over the past decade is that Earls is not a centre. No way and no how. He should never ever ever start a game at 13. They would be better off going to John Hayes' farm, cutting the legs off one of his cows, drowning it in a creek and wrapping its carcass in the 13 jersey than starting Earls in it.

Cant see CJ going but JJ possibly.

12 years ago he was a Lions tourist as a centre (wow that was 12 years ago), he was just starting his career and had the potential to be a centre as he was only 21 but you are right, over the past decade he has proven himself to be a great winger and has rightly focused on that, to ask him to move to centre at this stage of his career would be madness.

I can't imagine anyone on a central contract leaving but anyone else definitely could go, if rumours of wage slashing is correct I'd say there'll be a lot more going.

JJ feels like a player who could move on if the money is right elsewhere. There's Carbery to hopefully come back from injury and three academy players behind him. He turns 29 in the summer so it's probably the best time for him to get a long term deal.

I'd actually prefer if JJ did leave. Game time is limited enough and I'd prefer we were using it to bring on some of your younger guys and see can they get to the top level.

JJ knows that he's probably going to be third in the depth chart so this will be his last chance to make some money and any contract he gets from Munster will show his value as at best second best.
