I'd actually prefer if JJ did leave. Game time is limited enough and I'd prefer we were using it to bring on some of your younger guys and see can they get to the top level.

That's fine in theory but when our starting 10 is off with Ireland for half the season and we're struggling to win matches there'll be uproar. Back in the day when we had RoD and Warwick was probably the best solution for Munster, but not for Ireland. Look at our 9 now, Murry and Casey off with Ireland so now we're down to third choices.

JJ must have the best agent in the world if he can actually convince Lyon that he's a suitable compromise for Smith.

If he can get a contract there he should jump at it.

I can't see Munster playing ball here if this is a kite by his agent either.

Feel like I haven't seen Tommy O'Donnels name on a team sheet in a while, has he been injured or just not in favour?

Bit of both. Injured and some younger players being used more.

Is this the first time 3 sets of brothers have played for a team in the same game

2 sets of Brothers not 3. Coombes are cousins not brothers

    And I stand corrected. Thanks.

Arno Botha turned in a match winning performance earlier today in the Currie Cup final for the Bulls against the Sharks. 19-19 at the end of the game and he scored his second try at the end of extra time

Probably best all around, he'll get a bit more game time at Leinster next season

It's not a surprising departure, but I'm surprised Leinster wanted him back. He wasn't trusted when Leinster would select JGP on the bench, at a time when Leinster had to pick two of Fardy, JGP and Lowe. He's going home I suppose but he's likely to remain third choice.

Casey is out of contract but I imagine he's going nowhere. Neil Cronin is also up for renewal but is rehabbing an ACL.
If Patterson impresses maybe he'll get a contract. There's also Coughlan who might be added to the academy?

I agree 100%.6 starts in two seasons happened for a reason, so so slow to the breakdown. Thought his performance last night was the best he's been but still definitely 3rd choice.

Cronin will be an interesting call, out all season so no opportunity to make a case for a contract. 1 year maybe?

I think he's a quality player and just needs a run of games at this stage.

I can't see any sense in he wanting to go back to 3rd place at best or why Leinster are looking for him back.

He was unfortunate here in that Casey took his opportunity because if he could get a run of games he might have shown more potential.

Anyway, I hope it works out for him.

That's a funny one, knew it rang a bell....had a quick Google and yes, Munster have confirmed he's left the province..but the Indo reported 8 weeks ago that he had left his role in the academy... did he switch roles in the meantime?

Wasnt too impressed with him as academy head but there were some improvements in his time in charge

No. Head of academy and involved with Munster A. Not sure what other roles he may have had with Munster

    Is he replacing someone?

EDIT - I see that "Doris and Roux have both been returned to their provinces due to injury" which is a pity for them.

    Ryan Baird also called up

Doris has pulled out. Media reporting 'concussion like symptoms'.

Doris is back with Leinster with concussion like symptoms

Pity for Doris (and Roux) - that's a good bit of grunt lost.

Delighted for Coombes though, would love to see him on that stage and what he can do. I haven't seen a whole lot of Baird but great to see another young player getting camp experience and potential game-time

Coombes went off injured on Saturday I think so good to see that he's ok.

Be no harm for him to get some training in with lads from the other setups. Could get a cap against italy to boot

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,366 ✭✭✭yerrahbah

By the end of the 6 nations we could have Daly, Coombes and Casey all getting their first caps between the Autumn of 2020 and the Spring of 2021.

Better signs coming from the Academy

Dan Goggin suffered a hand injury and will see a specialist later this week to determine the need for surgery.

Gavin Coombes was removed as a precaution following a HIA. He has passed follow up assessments and is cleared to return to play. Gavin has joined up with the Irish Rugby squad for training this week.

Roman Salanoa suffered a back injury in the warm-up and was withdrawn from the match day squad. He will be assessed by the medical department again this week.

Calvin Nash suffered a thigh injury in training last week and will undergo rehabilitation with the medical department.

Continuing to rehab: Rhys Marshall (knee), James Cronin (knee), Keynan Knox (knee), Matt Gallagher (shoulder), RG Snyman (knee), Neil Cronin (knee), Joey Carbery (ankle).
