On the mrsc Q&A last week he talked about how isolated he was during the first lockdown. Hopefully that's all that it is.

I've wondered why BJ Botha wasn't brought into the coaching setup at Munster, he lives locally, coaches locally... surely he'd be a good, and inexpensive fit?

Joey picked a very rural setting and house to live! I'd have thought he would live in the Castletroy area like most of his teammates.

Very odd house/spot for a young lad with a few bob in his pocket you'd have thought.

Particularly for a pro athlete who has a huge amount of down time on his hands.

I'd say he's savage at the aul pool at this stage.

"this is a team which has won sixteen of its last twenty games... something which hasn't really been well documented"

POM telling it how it is.

Thats probably because most of those were in the Pro14 which was beyond crap this season. The narrative around Munster over the last while has been great against poor sides, poor against the top teams. Which has been completely fair.

We've been poor against Leinster. We won in Clermont, granted it was a complete freak of a game but every team in Europe would have bitten your hand off for that final score. We were competitive against Toulouse who are very likely to be a European finalist.

    There's a middle ground here.

Exactly. No shame in losing to leinster and Toulouse.

The issue is the lack of progress through the league which was full of bang average opposition. Coombes Casey and healy have been used well and improved. I think the frustration is everyone would like to see more like that trio being advanced.

A lot of giving out about Jenkins. The reason being in12 months time will he be gone, Munster in the same situation and the opportunity cost of maybe 1000 minutes of game time which could have enhanced another player who will be with munster long term(whycherley/ahern/hodnett whoever) is wasted.

I think the Jenkins furore is a nonevent.
We've lost some top class players this season...our squad will need some reinforcement ...the likes of Ahern, Coombes & O'Sullivan will get plenty of gametime next season....
but if we want to be involved in all competitions at the seasons end, we need quality reinforcements
also.... Leinster used their 58th player of the season last night... that's what's needed when fighting for all the trophies

Look who is being promoted from the academy and who is being let go. The young players are being backed to be the squad depth over some aging players who could have been retained for one or two more seasons. It's up to those players to demand opportunities now.

If Jenkins can help Munster win against the top opponents, then it's a great signing. I wouldn't assume that he'll be one year and done at Munster. I imagine either Jenkins or Snyman will be retained.

    59. How dare you dismiss Martin Moloney.

In all seriousness, I don't think 50+ players are needed unless you have exceptional circumstances as Leinster had this season between call ups and injuries. The notion of having David Hawkshaw and Cormac Foley as half backs against Munster would be nonsensical generally.

If Munster have a core of 35 players who are capable of slotting into the Champions Cup team then they're in great shape. They can stl win the Pro14 matches with their wider squad.

The problem is that there are a couple of key areas where that simply isn't the case. As good as Munster were last night, the front row was still wobbly. The scrum let Leinster off the hook a number of times and the line out had issues.

There needs to be a concentrated effort to get Wycherley, Salanoa, Barron and Knox significant game time before October to see if they're up to it.

Exactly. And the 1000 minutes or so that Jenkins will take up won't be available for those promoted players.

That's one example but look at what is happening in other positions. Josh Wycherley could end up as the second choice LH behind Kilcoyne who probably has two seasons left. Knox and Salanoa's progress has been disrupted by injuries at times but there's a clear succession plan to Ryan and Archer. Coombes has emerged this season and will be the first choice number eight. Casey is a great option at 9. One of the young 10s will be the backup to Carbery.
