The racism suspension/non-suspension involving Matera would be a reason why Munster wouldn't sign him. After Grobler, I don't think they want to invite controversy on another signing for the foreseeable. For pure rugby reasons it would be a fantastic signing. We also have no idea where/when Argentina are going to be playing their annual international season.

Cloete and Jack Daly are only signed up for next season so the contract space is there next summer to add Matera. I don't see Munster retaining both Jenkins and Snyman in the second row and the reality is Munster will always need to add a few top level players to supplement the Irish eligible players in order to remain competitive.

Zebo came out pretty strongly against that at the time, iirc, so would add an extra wrinkle to it.

Great point, completely forgot that situation

Thought you were being deliberately obtuse :)

He did indeed, I forgot about this.

    I can't see it happening.

Sure he'll be out of contract too.

    Therefore, the story checks out.

More bad luck for RG Snyman his recovery has had a setback with another operation (unrelated) required on his knee

Must make playing against the Lions a non starter now.

Balls, was only wondering recently would he make an appearance in the Rainbow Cup before it finishes. Hopefully he'll be back next season ready to go... he's a potential gamechanger when fit.

On the injury front, there is unfortunate news for RG Snyman as he suffered a setback during the last block of his rehabilitation.

He will see a knee specialist this week and will undergo a minor procedure on his knee after suffering an unrelated injury. This will delay his return to training for a number of weeks.

Academy lock Thomas Ahern (knee) is continuing with his return to training.

Unavailable: Jack Crowley (IRFU 7s training programme), Alex Kendellen (IRFU 7s training programme), Conor Phillips (IRFU 7s training programme), RG Snyman (knee), Neil Cronin (knee), Paddy Patterson (ankle).

Terrible news on Snyman. I was looking forward to him getting a run. Very bad timing for Ahern to be injured as well, though hopefully he can get back for next week if he is returning to training now.

Feck it anyway, just when we thought he was about to make a return.

Watching Leinster the weekend and thinking how we can't cope with their power and then seeing them being over powered by the likes of Saracens and La Rochelle made me think we really need someone like Snyman in our pack, if we are to have any hope of winning silverware.

    Unfortunate for RG.

Cant see him featuring in the rainbow cup now, could still be fit for the Lions tour.

    For the Ulster game,

I'd like to see J. Wycherley and Salanoa on the bench at least.

And starts for F. Wycherley, G.Coombes, Casey, Conway and Gallagher

I think we might see a similar enough lineup to the Leinster game, maybe with a few more squad/young players getting starts. Casey and Murray will probably split minutes in all the games, there's little point using McCarthy. I do hope Knox and Salanoa are both named in the 23.

hope theres a bit more of a mix, was important to get the win against leinster but there needs to be a bit more gametime given to some i think. start healy and casey, give r scannell a go at 12, move daly to 15, maybe a bit of moving around in the pack

Any idea about snymans availability for the start of next season? I guess we have to wait until post op to know

Either he's still injured or he's away with the Boks. Either way we're unlikely to see much of him until after the AIs.

If he plays no rugby for Munster before the end of this season it wouldn't be too surprising if he doesn't get called up to the Boks squad for the summer. Could end up in a Munster preseason and available early in the season yet

So it's entirely possible we never get so see him play in red. That hurts

It's probably not unreasonable to suggest that he'll only play about 10 or 12 games in total unless he extends his contract.

Ya I'm aware of hardly call 12 mins a conclusive career with a club would you? I don't even remember him carrying in that time

you originally said we might not get to see him play in red, i was pointing out he has actually played for munster however brief it was, no need to get narky

Being a pedant generally leads to nark.

A procedure that delays him a few weeks might only be an injection for a bit of swelling, it doesn’t state he is having surgery so have to just wait for another update.

Munster wore their away strip of navy that day. So he never actually played in red.
