Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Context, as ever, is everything. He was applauding the fans who had stayed to the end, supporting the team (the draw came from a late equalizer too I think).

He’d publicly admonished the crowd the previous week for leaving early, saying the team needed them to stay to the bitter end and keep the atmosphere up.

This was a thank you for listening, and responding.

I never know if people completely miss the point of that or if they deliberately ignore it and play dumb that it was merely a celebration of a draw.

That was a very important turning point for the fans and the Kop now and Anfield as a whole has become much more formidable in the league

In the 10 home games before the WBA draw we lost 5 of them and nearly 6 until that injury time equaliser

In 63 home games since we've lost 3

It's a shame though cause there's no point in trying to have an actual level-headed conversation about what should be a very interesting football match, because any attempts gets completely drowned out in the barbs, tit for tat back and forth, willy waving and slagging.

There's some interesting conversation and alot of ****e talk from both sides. I'm a Liverpool fan myself and have no problem admitting that I am dreading facing United tomorrow with their current form. They have been the been at least equally as good as Liverpool since ole took over.

The game can go either way. But nothing other than 3 points is good enough for us with can city waiting to pounce on us.

I think united can afford to lose some points as Chelsea and Arsenal are an absolute Shambles and will drop points all over the place until the end of the season.

It's no secret that United turn it up a notch against Liverpool. Should be a cracking game. I predict a scoring draw.

It's no secret both teams up it for this game and form is never a good measure in this fixture from my memory.

Both teams in good form, playing well and with Ole in charge, this game should hopefully be a cracker.

Well, it's not pot calling the kettle black. I'm not singling anyone out. I'm saying both sides have a handful of equally antagonistic posters who detract from any decent discussion breaking out. It'd be a nice change for the the majority of the forum readers if the slagging and 'my club is better than yours' shìte was given a rest.

Good man though saying we'd be delighted for a draw, be delighted for a win though to be honest

The moral high ground doesn’t get to be taken by any club, but instead by any fans of either club who don’t act like myopic children.

It’s totally possible to have a proper rivalry and debate without “everything about my club is better than everything about your club”. Because that sort of exchange is obviously always going to be nonsense, and you just end up with two red faced eejits screaming into the wind.

I don't support either team, but Id regard Liverpool as a bigger and purer footballing institution, whereas United would be a bigger corporate business. So in that sense, I hope Liverpool win, better for the game

This day and age, that's a fallacy. Every PL club is a business.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is codding themselves.
Liverpool try to portray themselves as a club of the people but they are far from it.

Of course its a fallacy, but in my own head I associate much of Liverpools success and tradition to a pre-corporate era, whereas what United have become today was built in the corporate era.

When it comes to this fixture and Boards, it tends to bring out the very worst in people. It's the internet so people that are probably 100% in real life behave likes silly billys when it rolls around. Best thing one can do is sit back, try and enjoy the game and not get wound up by people posting smack talk, it's only footy after all and very low on the totem pole of what actually matters.

That makes sense to be fair. Liverpool in their time at the top were miles ahead of anyone in footballing terms. United in their time at the top were miles ahead business-wise.

Tbf, the reason United did so well financially was down to football. United didn't become the money making juggernaut it is by luck, it was their on field achievements that made the money, at least during the infancy of the PL.

Yeah for sure, in United's time that they were so far ahead business wise, that would equate to the PL times, they really weren't far ahead of anyone in football terms.. it's not like they won, 13 leagues 2 champions league a Europa league, 6 FA cups, 5 league cups, a cup winners cup, a super cup and a club world cup..

    Definitely not, no siree bob

Yeah, it was a great run alright. They had a great business model that allowed them to do that. They have really taken their eye off the ball the last few years though. Will be interesting to see if they can dominate again when they don't have such a huge financial advantage.

He's with the squad for the match anyways, Matic didnt arrive with the rest but he could be meeting up later, Ole seems to have his preferred trio, but even Pereira and McTominay have got minutes ahead of him..

It might be a settling issue

From the little I’ve seen of him at Shakhtar in the UCL and for ye in the PL, he seems like the perfect type of midfielder for how ye play at the minute, but maybe Pogba’s return to form might have hurt his chances of breaking into the team do you think? He’s not defensively solid enough to sacrifice Matic or Herrera for but maybe not quite as creative and dangerous as Pogba going forward. Tidy looking player though, I definitely wouldn’t write him off yet as much as I’d like to.

I think he would be more a like for like replacement for Herrera in the team at the mo, but Herrera is playing some good stuff and Ole seems to love the guy so it's hard to break in there, Herrera is a lot more of a two way midfielder under Ole, totally different to Matic and that's the type Fred was with Shaktar anyways

As for the match, I'll probably watch it at home. Working till 8am so will need some form of a sleep before it kicks off. Temptation rising to go out for it though.

Yeah that's the issue. Although my local has two separate lounges with equally decent sized TVs.

We usually get shunted into the back for the soccer when the rugby is on alright. Although tbh I prefer watching the games there as it's a better view :)

It should be a fairly decent game going by the way both managers like to play and 3 points will be definitely what both teams will be aiming for.

    I just can't wait.

Can see that being a thing alright. The pub I work in we had a deep enough discussion on it before going with the football as our "main event" with the rugby on the smaller screens.
Most of our football crowd are in all the time whereas our rugby crowd are rarely in the pub unless there's a game. So preference goes to the people who keep us in our jobs. Its also a massive liverpool pub which as a United supporter kills me ha.

It's amusing what fans will convince themselves.

My favourite is when Irish supporters of English teams look for Irish links, refer to histories of proud Irish connections, Irish players, even Irish emigrants in the city where the club plays etc.

I expect Liverpool to surprise a few heads and sweep this United team aside with little fanfare. Mind you whenever I'm this confident of a result it goes arseways.

If we're clinical I just can't see a bad result.

A few words of encouragement from the arguably greatest manager in the history of football?

If it was good enough for the 2014 European Ryder Cup team, I'm sure it will do no harm.
