117 separate injuries. "Catastrophic" injuries to her private parts. Jesus wept. There's no torture too severe for this evil scumbag.

Drugs and broken families, can the tide be turned? Family values have gone out the window, people have turned their back on the Church and worship money instead.

RIP Alesha. You're in a better place.

Sorry I disagree, she would be better off not having been raped and murdered surely and lived her life as we all would wish to live ours.

The fact her mother found out she was missing, and subsequently that she was dead, on Facebook is just awful. It's one of the worst cases I've ever come across. He should be named and face the same penalties as any adult. What a depraved scumbag.

Isolated Island living screams out at me. I wonder how this could happen in a so called close knit community where apparently everyone knows/knew everyone else and who they were, and what they did.

I know it is not far from Glasgow, but still.

Poor little child. Awful no matter what. She should be the focus, not speculation on anything else YET.

Perp will be out in a few years due to upbringing/issues I reckon. But I doubt he will be going back to Bute.

I visited this lovely, very friendly, wee island in September, to visit the impressive Mount Stuart house and garden. It’s very easy to visit from Ireland: plane to Glasgow, very short bus ride to Paisley rail station, 40 minutes train to tbe beautiful little Victorian Wemyss Bay rail station, then a £3 30 minute boat ride, a scenic treat, to Rothesay town on Bute. I got to know half the population there chatting at the bus stop and got chatting about the Gaelic etc as a local lady dried the damp bus shelter seat for me with her little scarf! I had read about this awful Alesha tragedy before arriving as I always google news of anywhere before I go justvto be in the picture of what’s going on. There’s s lot of holiday homes rented on the island, a lot of houses are belong to the Mount Stuart Estate and other owners. It’s half remote from Glasgow, but not much more than an hour away, so all sorts of shenanigans can go on involving transient and part-time occupiers of properties. Child abuse, drugs..everything that’s evil, possibly black satanism etc. But the vast majority of Bute people are extremely sociable ordinary sorts like most of ourselves. I visited the museum, and my visit coincided with a class visit from the local school. The kiddies invited me to touch the furry seal on exhibit in the wildlife area, but not too hard so I don’t hurt him!

It sounds like her father's drug habit out her in dangerous situations. It was only a matter of time before something bad happened.

Pity the drug dealer had access to the poor little girl.

I found it strange that the accused tried to implicate the father's girlfriend and mentioned that they had sex. I wouldn't be overly surprised if it transpires that there was something going on there.

Father was watching porn the night she was abducted. Sold drugs to his daughter's murdererer, as well as his sister. Bit rich him calling him an effing scumbag. Needs to take a look in the mirror.

    ffs , that's a stupid baseless accusation.
In fact, blaming the father in any way is low.

nothing relating to him watching porn or drugs leads to what happened to that girl. The only culprit was the fella convicted.

Absolutely heartbreaking what happened to that gorgeous little girl. He should never again see the light of day.

He will, there is no such thing like in America of incarceration for actual life.
How's it working out for them over there as a deterrent for crime against children?

How do you know what a leftie liberal sounds like when, by your own admission, you only found out what "the left" is yesterday?

The assumption you're arguing that a criminal such as this is "mad rather than bad" is also quite a stereotypical "leftie liberal" (contradiction in terms by the way) position, for your information. You're awful at this.

Absolutely terrible crime, I'd like to see him tried as an adult. The rape and murder of a child is not a youthful mistake.

Well between the time I posted yesterday and this morning I had plenty of time to read what a leftie liberal is, and the poster admitted he or she is one of those leftie liberals.

This crime is evil full stop.

I don't know where you're coming from with mad and bad, but if the two can be strung together and we can come up with a word which describes the evil act both mad and bad I'd agree with you.

I think people took my post personal rather than reading it and asking me what do I mean by leftie liberals.

Did I mean all lefties are supporting bad behaviour ?

No I've friends who are very left, we just don't discuss politics.

Did I mean every left wing person would stick up for the criminal ?

    Of course not.

Did I make a mistake by bringing up leftie liberal in my post ?

Yes I did, because obviously it upsets a few people.

Did I mean to upset a few people ?

    Of course not.

If I left out leftie liberal out of my post which upset some people, would I it have gotten the same response ?

    Most definitely not.

But I will say, you'll still get people feeling sorry for the perpetrator rather than the victim, making up all kinds of excuses for this horrendous crime.

From the geographical location, to porn, drugs and watching violence on the internet.

Look it's like this, anyone who'd do this is evil and deserves to be wiped off the face of the earth....

It's an absolutely disgusting and horrific scenario. I live in Scotland and its all anyone has been really talking about.

The kid is a monster, plain and simple, refused to acknowledge what he had done and attempted to delay the whole thing. On account of this they had to go through everything that happened to the little girl, her mother ran from the court after the read out the list of injuries.

    I hope he rots.

He should be named, and never let out of prison.

Some people have a harsh and horrible life and which leads them to do bad things.
Some people do bad things because they have no choice.
Some people do bad things because of fear/panic/terror.

And some people are just born bad. My reading of the case as reported, I get the impression this lad is just born bad, and will do it again if given the opportunity, he just seems to utter evil. He should be left to rot. Or better yet do everybody a favour, put a gun to his forehead, pull the trigger and be done with it.

I honestly have no idea what to do with him. He's obviously a danger.

I think rather than sentencing guidelines for teenagers/adults his incarceration should be treated as a public safety matter.

This is a very disturbed crime that I think most, if not all, of us would have trouble getting out heads around. Whatever about treating him as an adult/child in a trial, he should never be released unless we are 100% certain that he can never endanger someone again.

No the so called justice system will do that all on it's own.

Remember that sack of shyte from Kilkenny that raped and murdered a single mother and then because he set the house on fire he murdered her two young daughters Zara 7 and Nadia 2 on Christmas Day in 2008 ?

When other children were waking up to santa, that fooking cun* made sure they never woke again.

Remember how he got 3 consecutive life sentences ?

Well on appeal he was give 3 concurrent sentences.

He was due for parole in 2016.
Yes 7 years later he was due for parole.
He was refused parole, but why would a piece of scum like that be illegible for parole after 7 years ?

BTW her family asked the so called justice system and state of this country which of the three lives was the only one that mattered when they changed his sentence.

Also when he gets out, even though he is a rapist, he won't be on sex offenders list because our justice system did not charge him with the rape, but with murder.

So don't ever think that we give perverts and murderers the justice they deserve.

As for the scumbag in Scotland a hot poker in the hole is too good for him.

“Parole” in Ireland is sentence management working towards eventual release. It’s totally different to the American system.

I feel sorry when I hear victims and their families getting upset as they think the offender is on their way out the door. That’s not how it works.

A life sentenced offender is automatically invited to engage with the Parole Process after 7 years served. Some engage, some don’t. Many go through at least several reviews with years in between before they get near a position where they may be trusted with reviewable temporary release.

In Ireland there is. The current longest serving prisoner in Ireland has been incarcerated since 1976.

A Life Sentence never goes away. The State have the right to hold the convicted person for the rest of their life. Parole is not a guarantee, it's ultimately at the discretion of the Justice Minister of the day. The convicted can be returned to prison at any time to continue their sentence if they reoffend while out on licence.

The judge has allowed his identity to be revealed. Only right when he could name another person and accuse them of the murder in court, and have her name and picture splashed all over the media while he enjoyed anonymity from the public. I hope there is no mitigation considered on sentencing given he has refused to accept any responsibility and forced the family through a very public trial.

You don't need Christianity to have decent values. Given the track record of the Churches on sexual abuse of children, it is not in any position to cast stones.

I'd far prefer to see people finding their decent values through their innate humanity rather than be depending on fictional stories from a couple of millennia back.

And I'd also prefer to see this stuff studied more. There's a tendency amongst religious people to say that someone who commits these crimes was evil or a monster. The fact was that he was human with a brain like any of us. I think we should study to see if we can work out how and why this happened to him. What causes someone like him to be the way he is.

We know a hell of a lot more now than we did 50 years ago. It may take centuries to find out but we have to keep trying because if anything we learn can prevent this just once, then it will be worth it.

This case must not have had much media attention as I only became aware of it today. Jesus Christ, what that poor little girl must have went through before she died. That bastard is clearly psychotic and should never be released. I can only hope that as his identity is now revealed, that in whatever prison he ends up in, he spends his remaining days enjoying the same level of comfort and attention that Otto received in Sons of Anarchy. A quick death would be far too kind for him.
