Brown powder on rice

I ate something in Berlin in a kebab shop where the rice had a light pinch of brown powder placed on top of it. I don’t know what it was but it really had a nice flavor. Vague details I know but if you have any suggestions of what it could have been or other powders that you can put on rice after plating then would love to…
