Just to settle an argument. If someone is on the dole (jobseekers allowance its called nowadays I think ???) and wins money on winning streak would that money be considered if they were means tested?

I know its tax free but in this situation where someone won say 40 grand would their dole payments be affected?

The means test is done before JS is approved. I don't think there are any ongoing bank ac checks so social would never know about any winnings unless someone chose to voluntarily disclose.

Winning money would be a change of circumstances/income.
Anybody on JA must report such an event and a new means test is done.40 grand would be certainly a game changer.
No need to report a winning if you are on JB- this is a non-means tested payment.
No need to report small winnings.

You’re obliged by law to report a change in circumstances to SW.

But in the future if you ever had to go on disability or carers of some other means tested SW payment you would have to disclose your bank details

Unless you kept it in under the mattress

    Not true.
You do have to disclose any cash kept at home as well!

If you held a few thousand in Prize Bonds do you have to disclose this information for claiming Jobseekers Allowance?

    Is it considered as Savings.
