    Has anyone noticed that the version in Galway has been sanitised, it's an Irish Country Lifestyle festival whereas up in Ulster its The Irish Game Fair and Fine Food Festival.

    Me thinks safe the trip to both as it has nothing to do with hunting and shooting anymore.

    It's been headed that way for years . The hunting/shooting market just isn't big enough here to pull in the punters on its own. If you want the footfall an event needs to be attractive to the broadest range of people possible and hunting/ shooting is not that .Simple as.

    Whatever happened to the Fishing&Hunting convention held up in Dublin in one of the hotels on the M50 a few years ago? It was small, but had a good few stands in a conference centre dedicated to hunting and fishing retailers? The place was packed out as far as I could remember.
    Wasnt full of "undesirable" elements, the floor wasn't mud and had plenty of guns and gear on display.Was easy to get to,and no major parking ripoff prices, followed by admittance ripoff prices.

    Whats in a name? Nothing to do with sanitising just promoting country sports and the rural way of life to a wider family audience. Plenty for hunting shooting and fishing enthusiasts at both events including quality competitions with great prizes. Good range of shooting, tackle and country clothing stands and some bargains to be had BUT if what you really want is a gun show then the British Shooting Show is the show for you whether you want to buy a specific gun or just look at a lot of guns.

    Golden but imperfect memory - we were exhibiting. There was a good range of tackle, NO GUNS on the two gundealers stands who exhibited, and a couple of clothing stands - it was a really a FISHING SHOW. Admission was €10 plus there was a nominal parking charge. Galway is €15 ( with voucher €10) - 10,000 vouchers distributed. CAR PARKING & SHOWGUIDE FOC. Galway will have less tackle but still a good showing, 6 gundealers and a very good range of country clothing.

    @Countrysports.
    Seeing that you are now THE only printed publication in the 32 counties,and not everyone is internet savvy,especially our older gerneration of shooters.Would you consider running some news columns/articles on what is going on legislative wise in both the ROI,and Brussels? Apart from NARGC/FACE,there are others too who are fighting against legislative change as well. Those who used to get their info from the ISD,while being noy totally up to speed on current events,are now betimes totally in the dark on certain issues as they have nothing to inform in print.

    As well as maybe on how the target shooting teams are doing?The ROI team won Team Silver in Bisley ,for the pump action[manual] class in target shotgun.[Not that we would ever hear of it in Irish MSM,or unless you are on Facebook:rolleyes:]

    There is a fair bit of crossover of both shooting and target shooters in the 32,not to mind between North &South,and it would be nice if the paper punchers got a mention too,once in a while in your journal?:)

    Our NI and ROI editors are always happy to hear news & views from any of the shooting/country sports and with over 100,000 internet readers per issue plus hard copy readers take it to the largest readership ever achieved by any Irish sporting magazine. We have plans to create an update facility on the internet version. Anything you want to submit email to irishgamefair@btinternet.com

    Drop me a note to irishgamefair@btinternet.com on the proposed subject matter of articles. And if you have had an article published elsewhere a copy of it - I'll pass these on to our editor.
