Front, back, middle....can’t legislate for these things, or guarantee they won’t get you...

Desperately unlucky. He looked comfortable up until then.

    Protest won’t see a rerun!

Any chance of him getting a place in the final as mentioned in commentary?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,600 ✭✭✭✭walshb

    Mark doesn’t deserve a place...

    Places are earned...

    They cannot rerun the race...

Appeal lodged, small chance given learmonth came up on the inside

They don't rerun on appeal. They just give an athlete a place in the final if the appeal is passed.

    I get that...

But you cannot do that either...

What about the other runners who didn’t qualify..

I am gutted, but it’s the nature of the beast..

Nobody can say had Mark not tripped he qualifies...

Am informed, track referee is a Donegal man :)

They ran unimpeded races. This isn't the first time this has ever happened, rulings like this have been in Athletics for donkeys years

Learmonths DQ actually changes things greatly as English was the person directly involved in this which adds weight to his case

Who says they cannot, you? Learmont was disqualified, so a protest can be lodged. Sara Treacy was advanced to the final in a 3k steeple a few years ago in similar circumstances. You can't go up the inside and impede an athlete if the space is not there.

Relax, lads. I just disagree with it..

What about lad who finished 4th in both heats?

Mark fell. Impeded or not. He, or any other faller in theses type races have to take it...

The correct and fair way for “all the non qualifiers” is for the two semis to be raced again...

    But that won’t happen...

Next time Euro indoors are on, each country should have an enforcer runner like hockey who goes around hacking and spiking all the favourites to knock them out of the heats so their fellow strongest Country man contender goes into a final with all the favourites missing.

Well, if I was the lad who finished 4th I wouldn’t be happy if the person who finished last got awarded a finals spot ahead of me...no matter why or how he finished last...

    I’d lodge a protest...

    I’d lodge a protest...

But you'd have finished no better than 4th anyways..so appeal denied!

Yes. Denied. I’d be appealing on the basis of it being unfair, and calling for a rerun...

To think that a faller, who comes in behind you then gets awarded a finals race because of an impending incident is just ridiculous...

I’m bemused how anyone can think this fair...
