Another big derby game taking place this weekend and this one holds even more significance as Liverpool look to return to top of the league with three points.

This is a fixture that's caused a lot of heartache for the blue half of Merseyside. It's nearly 9 years since Everton last won a derby and in the reverse fixture they fell to defeat via a goal from Origi in the final seconds. They could however dent their local rivals' title aspirations if they can get a result at Goodison Park.

Leighton Baines is out with a rib injury but Andre Gomes is expected to return; Roberto Firmino faces a late fitness test on his ankle problem, while Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez look set to be out.

How do you see this one going?

I would worry for Everton as Richarlison appears to have gone off the boil and besides Sigurdsson I'm not sure there's much of a threat in their team. Liverpool on the other hand look like they could score via their attackers as well as their defenders. Silva is still under pressure and if Liverpool get an early goal I can see the crowd getting restless and Liverpool taking advantage. While these games are traditionally low scoring and tense, I expect Liverpool will have too much for this Everton side and to win it well. I'll say an away win by two or three goals.

Think the train is going to keep rolling. 2-1 liverpool. Mane salah and an everton set piece

Liverpool should win this without breaking sweat. The only thing that makes it interesting as a contest is the derby aspect, maybe Everton will do a Lazarus impression for one match only. Otherwise, on comparing players, managers, form etc. the only sensible conclusion involves Liverpool winning by 2 or 3.

Mane and Salah to snort their way around the box ala Robbie Fowler and Henderson to klinsman into the Everton dugout ala Suarez..

    ...but would take 1 - 0 Liverpool

Hate this fixture. Will take any sort of win right now.

Everton to massively up their game today. Fans are unhappy but a win over their big rivals will put them at ease. They'll be able to point to stopping Liverpool from winning the league if they do.
1 goal win for Everton and hopefully it's a dived for penalty that makes the difference

As with the United games I think if you remove all the pomp and circumstance around it Liverpool are clearly the better team and should run out handy winners. But unfortunately it rarely works out like that.

Would take any kind of win, and hopefully no hatchet jobs on anyone, or fabricated allegations.

Can't be a worse outcome than the last Derby. 1-11 to 0-10 for the Toffees.

    0-0 or 1-1.

Usually a tight game in Goodison

Hopefully the bad weather wind, rain, sleet will be a leveller :)

Everton to bend over as usual, the most predictable big Derby in England.

    0-3.

Wretched game as a rule, only any good after it's been won.

Champs elect Liverpool to win this at a canter. Far, far too good for Everton

Also fancy an easy pool victory.

    Everton are muck.

With the whole of Manchester and one half of Liverpool joining forces to cheer on the Blues of Everton today so with that kind of support there will only be on winner.

Everton by the a goal in a 4 -3 cracker of a game.

Can't believe there isn't one up already

Can everton arrest their recent poor record in the merseyside Derby or will Liverpool keep rolling on

    There is one already tho

    Don't flatter yourself
The red half of Manchester is concentrating on ourselves, improving our preformance, results squad and finishing our the season as well as we can

They must be taking a very different approach than you considering that you seem to give more time lurking in the Liverpool and the Liverpool related threads than the United ones

They're not mutually exclusive, and it's simply not true for any United fan I've spoken to. They're all City fans for the remainder of the season, their words not mine.

United and pool was last week it's Everton this week probably be best to focus on them.

    Team news:
Everton XI: Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Zouma, Digne; Gueye, Schneiderlin; Walcott, Sigurdsson, Bernard; Calvert-Lewin.

Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Mane, Origi.

Richarlison and Firmino on the bench. Can't see where goals are going to come from for Everton. Maybe a sighter or two from Sigurdsson outside the box.

Idk but that seems like a fairly decent team for everton

Origi being particularly booed is fúcking hilarious.

Is that piped in? No way they can keep that up for 90 minutes every other week.

If Sigurdsson went down there it had to be a pen.

Frantic derby but not much quality so far.

    Or not, he wasn’t fouled.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Or not, he wasn’t fouled.

There was contact. And at the speed he was going if he takes a tumble he gets the spot kick 9/10, especially at home. Too honest for his own good.

Great chance for Salah to open the scoring. Pickford makes the stop.

    Contact doesn’t equal foul.
    It wasn’t a foul.
So def not a pen even if he goes down.

I'm not arguing contact equals foul. I'm arguing contact at that pace, followed by a tumble, with home advantage, equals penalty.

Salah is a master at it btw.

Points here for Everton. Liverpool not shown much bar the Salah strile.

Once again for those with comprehension difficulties:
Jesus. It wasn’t a foul. It wasn’t given. You think that the player going down, when not fouled, would be a pen 9/10 times. You have the difficulties with the basics of the game.

Yeah because every single penalty that's ever given is always 100 per cent the result of an actual foul, right?

I think it’s a very even game with maybe Everton shading it. They have a more dynamic midfield but lack having a striker of quality.... Liverpool not too dissimilar.

Wonder will klopp show some ambition with subs today or play safe like he did last week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,707 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

Everton giving the ball away too easily, but Liverpool not doing much with it.

How are Everton shading it when Liverpool created the better chances?

2 great chances so far that salah made a balls of

Firmino and Milner on. Expecting Liverpool to be better now, especially with the former sub. Shaqiri a nice option at some stage as well.

Good to see Richarlison on but don't like Everton's bench. Does Tosun play at all these days?
