A new career in Accountancy?

    Hi there,
    I'm new to Boards so am hoping I'm posting correctly!

    I'm 25 and starting to think about a new career with better prospects & more potential to make more money.

    I did an Arts degree in English/Soc&Pol and got a 2.1, and have been working in insurance for 4 years since.

    I am really interested in trying to become an Accounts Technician/eventually an Accountant.

    I was wondering if anyone could help me with what my options might be to get into this career WITHOUT going back to university and doing another under-grad (As I simply can't afford to do this).

    I have seen the Accounts Technician Apprenticeship programme and have registered my interest in it - has anyone completed this?

    I would really appreciate any advice or help with information on this career.

    Accounting Technician is a great qualification, and is well regarded for jobs in its own right. There is a big jump to Accountant Qualifications (ACCA, CIMA etc). I haven't seen many people using IATI as a stepping stone. I see it as an end in itself.

    ACCA/CIMA etc are really tough exams, even if you have a related degree and experience in working in accounts. If that is your goal, then I would go straight into it and see if you sink or swim.
