Hi, I received results on Monday. Fingers crossed that’s the case, this competition seems to be going on forever. The guy I was onto in PAS couldn’t give any indication so I hope it’s sooner rather than later!

For anyone on the Offaly or Westmeath panels, I rang PAS this morning and they said they are aware of 1 vacancy in Westmeath and none in Offaly at the moment but that this may change in the coming weeks as Departments will be aware there are panels in place.

Folks . Can anyone advise please! I've placed no1 for a region but my preferred choice region has not interviewed yet. Do ye think am I making right decision holding out for preferred region based on yer experiences . Question for those of ye who have been successful but found themselves in same situation.

Cant advise but that is an awkward position to be in. I guess it depends on how badly you want to be in the preferred choice and whether you are willing to risk not getting placed?

There is something about being able to defer an offer if the location is further than 45 km from your home address. Might be worth enquiring about. Hope that possibly helps!

I believe you can turn it down but still keep your place on the panel. They offer it to the next person on the panel for that area and so on. They don't defer it as the position needs to be filed. So it's a chance that another suitable position comes up in the area, which with interdartmental is quite possible, as lots of departments and with a longer period before expiring. I would base it on how many were filed from last panel and roughly number of civil servants in area. If there are thousand better chance than an area with 50 for e.g. As they will have a lot fewer HEO's. I would also weigh it up with the same criteria for your first location. You will not be offered the same office again from this panel if you have refused it already, in exceptional circumstances you can defer taking up a position such as careers leave but seems to be case by case basis and not guaranteed.

Thanks I actually was not aware of this as its my 1st time to apply for HEO.

I don’t know how that could work as you’re offered a location, not necessarily a department.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,257 ✭✭✭Augme

You can only refuse an offer and stay on the panel if the location is 45kn from where you lived as mentioned. If you say refuse it for any other reason you are removed from the panel for that county location.

Did anyone ring Public jobs to check how many vacancies there may be in Kildare, if not I will ring tomorrow.

Does anyone know if there are any vacancies in Tipperary or Limerick?

  • Registered Users Posts: 132 ✭✭Connected99

Just saw this notice on PAS website

Please note, from Monday 18 November 2019, the Public Appointments Service
will be hosting interviews from two locations, Abbey Street and Baggot Street. Please ensure you check your invitation to interview on your publicjobs.ie Message Board in advance of attending for
    interview with us.

  • Registered Users Posts: 197 ✭✭Anna1976

I just phoned PAS asking if there are any vacancies in Kildare, she said at the moment there are no vacancies and that she cannot say when there will be because they wait for individual departments to submit requests.

Hi there, I have been called for interview next week, I have been looking through the assessment material provided and under part A specialist knowledge, expertise and self development is included under "a competency area identified for the HEO role". There is no actual competency is the form for this so does anyone know if it is maybe assessed throughout the interview? Thanks!

According to PAS, the Westmeath panel has started moving. Two confirmed vacancies going in to clearance. No indication of whether any more movement is imminent

Do you mind me asking how they made contact with you? Is it a phone call or email from PAS? TIA

PAS rang me last week to notify me they had reached my number and to confirm I was still interested in a position. They were able to confirm where the vacancy was on the phone too.

After the phone call they emailed me asking me to confirm I was happy for clearance to proceed.

Im being retained in the same department so just waiting to hear where Im going but not sure how long clearance usually takes.

Definitely relax a bit, they will get in touch as soon as they reach you and then the relevant department will contact you once clearance is complete.

Any idea how long clearance takes?

A colleague has advised that it is 2 weeks but i am not 100% sure on this.

I got the call on Friday evening asking about clearance, said I was happy to proceed, being kept in same department but different office, checked sick leave and pmds rating on Monday, got placed on the Tuesday. So it varies, for me it took two days and someone else I know had to be Garda vetted again so took a little longer but not much. All in all very quick.

Congratulations, is that a seperate panel to this one?

It is separate but I think they are running together. Mine is interdepartmental ICT, they need a lot of HEO's at the moment.
As far as I know people can be called of 1 of 3 panels

    . External HEO panel
    . Interdepartmental HEO
    . Interdepartmental ICT HEO

I am told there will be movement on them all
