Has anyone been called for interview yet for Clare?

    Thanks!!

It is separate but I think they are running together. Mine is interdepartmental ICT, they need a lot of HEO's at the moment.
As far as I know people can be called of 1 of 3 panels

    . External HEO panel
    . Interdepartmental HEO
    . Interdepartmental ICT HEO

I am told there will be movement on them all

Are these positions just in Dublin or nationwide?

Does anyone know if it’s published anywhere how many positions are owed to mobility panels?
I’ve asked the union rep but he hasn’t responded yet.

I think you've got your wires crossed.

If by External HEO panel you mean Open HEO, no there isn't one. HEO is a promotional grade for serving civil servants who wish to be promoted from CO or EO. Open HEO competitions are only ever run for specialist roles, such as ICT, (see below).

Yes, there is definitely a current Interdepartmental HEO competition, for serving civil servants.

There is also an Open HEO ICT Competition currently running, called Senior Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Specialist in Civil Service. This isn't Interdepartmental, i.e candidates who aren't current civil servants could apply. (All ICT competitions over the last five years at least, have been open for EO, HEO and AP). I have yet to see an Interdepartmental HEO ICT competition.

There may also be internal HEO competitions within your department.

Hi, I went for interview on 16th Dec for Wexford and I got results on 19th Dec. There was no waiting around for results in my case. I made no. 1 for Wexford.

Congratulations and well done, you won't be waiting long to be called I would imagine. Hopefully there will be some movement for the rest of us in January.

Have many people from the regional panels started in their new roles yet? I feel that this competition is going on forever at this stage.

Some regional counties have had placements but some haven't. No movment on Laois or Kildare yet as far as I know.

When is this panel due to expire?

I just phoned PAS regarding the Kildare panel and was told there have been no appointments yet and there are no requests for HEO's for Kildare at the moment either.

That seems to be the case with a lot of counties, it's a little worrying how slow this panel is moving.

I might call PAS to see if there is any further update on this competition.
It seems to have come to a complete stand still entirely!! Unfortuantely!!!

I phoned public jobs last week, I am number 16 for Kildare. I was told there are now 5 ahead of me. Even though no one has been placed yet in Kildare, other people ahead of me have been placed in their first choice county.

    I’m guessing that’s Dublin.

I thought the same, but not sure to be honest. There just seems to be very little updates on this thread in general.

    Hi ,
I have been placed in the last two weeks for DSP in Kilmainham.
Infra role.My OOM was in the late teens so wasn't sure if I'd make the cut but
    thankfully got an offer.
    Best of luck to all.

Congratulations on the job. But you were placed from a different panel from a different competition. The competition you were successful in was the Open HEO ICT Specialist. This thread is for the Interdepartmental HEO competition for serving civil servants in general service roles.

I've sat the supervised tests but have not been called to interview yet. I know from speaking to other applicants and
judging by their scores, I'd be in the top 10 for my location based on tests. PAS have said that they are now only interviewing on a demand led basis. So far they've only interviewed 2 people for my location and they are not obliged to set up panels. My understanding was that they would set up a panel for this competition for each location.

It goes a long way to explain the slow pace of things in the competition but seems to contradict how competitions are normally run? Anyone else any info like that from PAS or is my experience unique to my location?

I was told exact same end of Nov when I wanted to hold out for my 1st choice, I was told it a big gamble as might not even need people or set up a panel for this region so I went with my 2nd choice region on offer.

Has anyone been promoted recently from this panel? (Outside Dublin) I just cannot believe how slow it appears to be going.

Haven't even done the interview yet. Meath were only called for interview in the last fortnight. I was on a previous panel, ans only a single vacancy for Cavan was taken off of it before it closed.

I am in the exact same situation. It has been ran very differently from the last few. It's very frustrating

I understand promotions are not top priority in the current climate but has anyone received any information as to whether there is a hold at the moment?

Generally, SWY and Flexi are available to HEOs. I've worked in two departments and I've never known it to be an issue for any HEO.

I contacted PAS about 2 weeks ago. I have moved one place for my first choice county, nothing was said about the placements being on hold. I know PAS are interviewing at the moment via zoom for CO's and EO's so hopefully things are still moving to some degree.

I have been offer a HEO position in Wexford 06/05/2020 and there were two ahead of me when I checked in mid April. So the list is moving.

Where would I find a list of the numbers of HEO's similar to that of the mobility map which shows the number of CO/EO positions per location, or does such a list even exist?

I’ve looked for such a list from forsa with no success.

Did everyone get the text on Friday looking for EOI's for Meath?
Does anyone have any more information on this, they must have exhausted the panel for Meath already? Great opportunity for anyone who didnt put that county down but is withing travelling distance to it.

Has anyone been placed on a panel and been given a number but had to wait a period of time for a position? I've contacted PAS and was told they are doing demand led interviews for this competition and are not obliged to set up panels. Wondering are there panels for some counties and none for others or how are they doing it ? I do know people have sat interviews and got positions straight away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,812 ✭✭✭Addle

Read the thread and job application. No opportunities is some counties.
Majority of positions are in Dublin.

I think both these scenario's are happening, I know some people have been given an OOM after interview and are waiting to be placed and then for other counties people are only being called to interview as positions become available.

In my current job I work closely with Cwo's.
Both seem to like their job.
It's very busy in our location, I'm sure it's the same countrywide.
You will need to have a thick skin and enjoy working with the public.

One of the positives (depending on your perspective) is that you generally won't have any staff to manage. So no large section to worry about. If you are based in an Intreo (Dole Office) at any rate that is my experience of the role. You do your own work in the main. A mix of desk work and at a public window during clinic times. In some offices the clinic might only be two or three days a week. As already stated you will need a thick skin as you are the last resort for payment. People who don't qualify for a 'regular' payment or are awaiting a decision on same will come to you. You will deal with severe aggression at times and also with vulnerable people with real issues who may threaten suicide in extreme cases. You will be behind a screen and there is usually security too. But not every day is like that.

So it's not a job that suits everyone. Having said that most CWO's I knew with a couple of exceptions liked their work. Also all staff especially CO's in Intreo offices have to deal with the same issues for a lot less money and may also have Managers on their back. But as you are the last resort it is more likely that you will experience difficult customers. Also as a HEO you could be managing the whole Dole Office for the same salary so it's a matter of perspective. There are plenty of positives. There is also job satisfaction in helping some who are genuinely in a desperate situation.

Finally the comradery can be great working in Dole offices. I think the environment is a factor. Some Govt. offices as you may already know can be the complete opposite and the day can drag.

    .

Just a slight correction to this in that a lot of CWO’s have to do house calls. Obviously not with Covid-19 but in general the job can involve visiting vulnerable /old/sick people in their homes - assessing residences for emergency means payments related to kitting our houses etc you use your own vehicle and claim back mileage.
