Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Audi A4 BHP Question

Looking for a small bit of advice folks. I am hoping to purchase a Audi A4 over the next couple of weeks. I've read a bit on Boards about the BPH 163 ones been better as the lower BPH is more sluggish.

Im trying to find a 163 BHP within my budget of between 16k-18k for a 2015 one. I know there is quiet a few for sale in the north and England, but changing over the VRT wouldn't be something I would have a clue about and there does not seem to be many 163 ones for sale in the south.

My question is, is there much of a difference between the 163 BHP and the 150 BPH Audi A4's.

Sorry for the long winded post.

I think you are looking for the petrol, but looking at diesels.

There were a few different versions of that engine in the B8 A4 depending on the year.

    From wiki:

    2.0 TDI 2008– 1,968 cc (120 cu in) 16v I4 turbo 120 PS (88 kW; 118 hp) @4200 290 N⋅m (214 lb⋅ft) @1750–;2500
    2.0 TDIe 2009– 1,968 cc (120 cu in) 16v I4 turbo 136 PS (100 kW; 134 hp) @4200 320 N⋅m (236 lb⋅ft) @1750–;2500
    2.0 TDIe 2012– 1,968 cc (120 cu in) 16v I4 turbo 163 PS (120 kW; 161 hp) @4200 380 N⋅m (280 lb⋅ft) @1750–;2500
    2.0 TDI, 2.0 TDI quattro 2007– 1,968 cc (120 cu in) 16v I4 variable geometry turbo 143 PS (105 kW; 141 hp) @4200 320 N⋅m (236 lb⋅ft) @1750–;2500
    2.0 TDI, 2.0 TDI quattro 2008– 1,968 cc (120 cu in) 16v I4 variable geometry turbo 170 PS (125 kW; 168 hp) @4200 350 N⋅m (258 lb⋅ft) @1750–;2500

I think in 2015 most of these engines were replaced with more efficent engines in either 120bhp or 150bhp.

The 163ps 2.0Tdi A4 was never sold in Ireland. It's a low emisisons version that was good for UK BIK, but didn't work over here, so wasn't brought in.

    Irish engine options were:

    120ps
    136ps (low emission)
    150ps
    177ps

I wouldn't have any concerns about the 150ps being underpowered for an A4 - it's a very pokey engine and doesn't really feel that different to the 177ps version.

Gearing on the 136ps was different to lower the emissions, so presumably it was on the 163ps as well. 136ps was a little better than the 120 version, but not a patch on the 150 version.
