After the 2-0 humbling at Old Trafford, most people think this game is a formality but United's manager will be looking to promote the spirit of Manchester United teams of old to galvanise his depleted squad. United probably have to go back as far as 1999 , when they were 2-0 down away to Juventus , to draw the kind of inspiration they will need to make it to the quarter finals.

Injuries and a suspension of arguably their best player further decreases their chances. Perhaps Solskaer will remind his players of the champions league final in 1999 where, without their starting central midfield of Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, United were able to overcome the odds against a powerful Bayern side with 2 injury time gems.

Many feel that United must get the first goal that might very well undermine the fragile mentality of PSG that has been ruthlessly exposed in recent champions league seasons. United also responded well to their first leg humbling with 3 victories and a comfortable draw against title chasing Liverpool.

For United fans, the reality is that this is tie is PSG's to lose and all the odds are stacked in their favour. Home advantage and a comfortable away victory don't even factor in the threat that the lethal Mbappe poses. It is unlikely that United will get away from Le Parc des Princes with a clean sheet so they most likely will have to score 3 goals to go through.

My Prediction: United fans, like myself, may need to push the sofa out a bit tonight in case we need to hide. I am not sure this place will be much safer after 7.59 . . :(

Zero expectations tonight. Tie is over, and PSG won't let us put 3 past them unanswered. Doubly so given out injury crisis. Sucks, but I've accepted we were eliminated two weeks ago tbh.

Oddly I think playing away with nothing to lose will suit Man Utd as they are now to a tee. Not saying they'll win but they could give PSG a scare.

United fans should have a little hope. It's only 2 nil. It's football anything is possible!

It's a tough ask given Utd's injury problems and Pogba's suspension. But sometimes when teams face adversary like this it can galvanise them in to a performance. I'll plump for a 1-1 draw on the night.

Sure. And there's a chance I can pull Emma Watson if I dream big.

But we're 2 down (away goals), and going into the game with a midfield of Fred, McT and Perriera.

It would take an astronomical bottle job from PSG tbh.

I have pretty low expectations. I don't expect United to keep a clean sheet and I don't see them scoring 3.

But...an early goal would test the resolve of PSG's jocks

Looking forward to this one actually, I think United have nothing to lose by going for it early doors. An early goal as someone above said and there'll be some sweaty arse cracks in the PSG team anyways.

First 20 mins will be fun... for the neutrals anyways.

It would have been tough even with a full squad, but considering the absentee list, and the type of team likely to feature tonight, I have little hope. Mbappe is in crazy form atm as well.

I think a draw could be possible but more likely that it's a 2-1 home win. Just hope the score is respectable.

Can't see anything bar a psg win, psg -2 @ 3/1 looks decent.

I think if Man U can get an earlier goal PSG will crumble.

    Teams:
PSG XI: Buffon - Kehrer, T. Silva, Kimpembe, Bernat - Marquinhos, Verratti - D. Alves, Draxler, Di Maria - Mbappe.

Man United XI: De Gea - Young, Bailly, Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw - McTominay, Fred, Pereira - Rashford, Lukaku.

Buffon gets the nod over Areola; Cavani on the bench.

5 at the back for United. I find that disappointing. I know the midfield is dire but at least give it a go beforehand. Can always switch to that if they score since the tie is dead at that point.

Very negative line-up from Ole. Easy 3 nil win for the home side I reckon.

What do you want him to do??

Look at the bench available to him?

Romero, Rojo, Dalot, Garner, Chong, Gomes, Greenwood.

Probably 3 at the back and Shaw and Young as WBs.

Think 3 at the back could work very well against psg.. Then again don't think any formation with all the injuries and pogbas suspension will make enough of a difference

Michael Owen looks like he's had botox. There's a weird plastic sheen to him on BT right now.

LOL, what else do you expect? Have you seen the bench!!

It’s the best team possible given the players available. Majority of united fans just want to get thru this game without injuries.

    That United kit is attrocious.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot by PSG there. A no look pass right across your defence.

oh ye of little faith :D...

to be fair long way to go still and PSG still fav to go through but at least this early goal might mean its a competitive match instead of the expected stroll for PSG

1-1. Bernat tucks in Mbappe's cross.

    That was avoidable.

    That was coming.

    Awful by Bailly.

Bailly messes up twice. Asleep he was.

Ah well, it was nice to have some hope for a while.

Who was the United player that stopped and allowed Bernat free run in at the back post? Bailly?

United are defending far too deep. They're practically on their one six-yard box anytime PSG push forward.

Bailly I think. Played Mbappe onside too,

Wouldn't mind seeing a United goal, make it a bit more exciting. However, with the way it's going it's not looking too good.

This is a very strange game. United have been battered but lead 2-1, could be their night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,384 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Two absolute gifts from PSG. They might still go through but you could definitely describe this as their bottle going.
