Paint From England ~ Ferry Courier?

Just for the record; I'm Not looking for a crafty work around. I'm woefully aware my innocent tin of paint wouldn't make it onto a plane (Seems terrorists can now make 'liquid' bombs) So, I need it ~ openly and legally ~ brought over on a ferry.

Anyone know a Courier who actually sends a van by sea, please? I just spoke to DPD. They don't. I'm wondering about Fastway. But, they're shut for the weekend.

    Anyone ....?

    Thanks.

Is it one tin? Organise it with any parcel service company and they’ll get it to you just like anything else. AFAIK paint can be transported by air if packaged correctly, just not by airline passengers.

One tin. 3.5Kg. Honestly, genuinely, just a tin of paint. But, you look at 'Any' couriers list of prohibited items and " Liquid " is top of the list :(

Believe me; I've googled this. It has to come on the boat ~ Seems terrorists don't blow boats up

I'm assuming it's a special paint? Where are you buying it from? They could potentially deliver up north.

Just as a side, I've had plenty of liquids sent from the UK using parcel motel.

Pond Paint. Bit more resinous than ye standard White Gloss. But, paint, none the less.

Royal Mail won't touch it (Or any liquids). Firm I bought it from won't send it. Frankly? I blithely thought; " What's their bloody problem?! Sod 'em. I'll have it sent to my bro', in england. Then, get DPD to pick it up and fetch it here! " Then, it all started unraveling :(

Weird, I know. Looking back? A bloke sent me a bottle of beer. Royal Mail. No one batted an eyelid. Maybe this ruling's more recent?

I got liquid delivered less than a month ago from the UK. They will say it on their terms, but ultimately what it means is that they take no responsibility for it.

They are actually worried about it contaminating other items if it were to open in transit.

I'm sorry, I'm at a loss as to what your problem is.

You can ship paint via parcel service, providing it is packed correctly, as I mentioned already.

You need to confirm the UN Number & Packing Class with the shipper, ensure it is packed and labelled as per the requirements.

    https://www.tnt.com/express/en_ie/site/how-to/ship-varnishes-paints.html

Give TNT a call, or DHL, or pretty much any international parcel service worth their salt....

UPS will take it. I've used them multiple times to send and receive paint from London. Multiple sizes etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,545 ✭✭✭Stigura

    UPS?

Last time I used them? I asked for the package to be dropped at the pub, where they'd delivered stuff before.

I was in the pub and popped out to go to a shop. Saw the UPS van, parked across the road. Came back, expecting my package. Van was gone. No package.

Got home and found email saying they couldn't deliver to the pub as it wasn't in the business directory. Therefor, it didn't exist! They'd sent my stuff back to sender.

I emailed them the pubs web site. I even took a photo and sent them that. I assured them it Did exist; I'd just been in there. Their van had been parked outside.

No. They were emphatic: It wasn't in some " Business Directory "? They couldn't deliver.

If I repeated, on here, what I said to them next? I'd be banned!

Liquids are very much allowed, just not as passenger items.

Paint is classed as a dangerous good, DG's are subject to strict rules enforced by IATA.

In short, contact the parcel service, and give us your feedback.

Even if they cannot ship by air, a company like TNT will add it to their groupage service coming into Ireland and distribute from there.

RE: That list by DPD, I'm surprised they pick anything up if I'm honest. Also couldn't find that on their website.

Good luck with getting it sorted.

:) Well, I've had a really stress free day.

Went to TNT. Followed their instructions. Ended up with:

    TNT1.jpg

Used that Contact Us link to ask them if they could bring my pot of paint. We await .....

Couple of hours into waiting, I thought I'd try DHL. Followed their links. Ended up with This:

Yeah. Easy, peasy, lemon squeazy, eh? :) Just laying this down as an example for anyone else who intends to try these companies for fetching Anything from UK.

I absolutely agree! How in hell do they even manage to run a business, if they refuse practically Anything one might hope to send anywhere?! It's crazy!

Regards finding that enormous and exhaustive list? Simple; ye go to their UK site. Click to buy the job. Tell it " UK to Ireland " and the weight. Click. Then click to check the list of Prohibited Items. Bingo!

The best bit is; Rack ye brain and come up with something Not on that list? Try typing in that ye package contains " Rubber ". See what happens! Endless fun!

The bastards only seem willing to convey empty boxes!

Now; I'm being told, 'Simple'. 'I do it all the time'. 'What's your problem?'? My problem is that I simply wish to get a pot of paint brought over. Legally and above board. So as not to break any laws and possibly cause grief for my brother and / or lose my expensive paint.

As further requested, I'm listing and proving my adventures, on this thread.

Oh, and DHL? Premium rate number my phone plan won't touch.

TNT? Can't even remember. Probably the same.

DPD? Straight through to a nice lady, who said they're not touching my paint.

Expect further updates. Check here, if interested.

:pac: Reviews say they NEVER answer the phone. I rang them, anyway. Got an instant reply ~ recorded message:

A/ Go to our website. B/ If you're a customer? Use the phone number we've given ye.

Went to their website. Did the usual, " Parcel UK to Ireland " bit. Got this, straight away:

MOD: Ok this is going to remain locked unless someone has useful info for the OP regarding their shipping requirements, or there is a resolution to their problem.
