Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looked at the handicaps there. Bun Doran runs a good race and likes Cheltenham. Reckon he will give a good spin. Seasoned tough horse well used to these races.

Dallas the pick in the last hopefully. He will be backed heavily (already is!)

Elliott and Kennedy will cream them on Eclaire in County.

Finally to introduce you to the star of the day, may I present to you Percy. Go awnnnn

Really sweet on Mr Adjudicator in the County. Ran well in the Triumph last year and his first run this season behind Espoir D'Allen is not exactly a negative.

E/w Yankee on Ruby in first 4 races

Had a Yankee & an e/w acca on McManus horses and Epatante let it down for 8grand so I’ll stick a similar bet on his horses again today.

    14.10 Whiskey Sour
    14.50 Commander

    16.50 Le Prezien
    17.30 Daybreakboy

best of luck to you all.

500k just went on sir Eric by one punter on the exchange, guess if someones that confident I'll use my free 20 on sky bet on him :p

Money appears to be flooding on Quel Destin in the Triumph. As short as 5/1 now with Paddy Power having been 8/1 - 9/1 earlier this morning.

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭yogi37

Money back up to €10 on first race with PP if Sir Erec wins. Its a free bet on the rest of the field if Sir Erec is as sure a thing as everyone seems to think. I backed Quel Destin at 5/1, should have jumped last night when I looked at it first time.

Thistlecrack at 16/1 in the Gold Cup.
I notice his 2nd dam is Booterstown (where I live).

I'll be in tears if Thistlecrack wins, I really will. I'll take another proud run though, few deserve a right go at the GC more than him.

3 races, 1 horse in each and horse (along with jockey of course) must finish in the places to win on the bet.

So even if you pick each way the horse still has to win? So each way isn’t three horses placing and it pays out, what happens if one horse wins and another places?

No, they all must place (or win) to win the bet.

Sir Erec at as low as 4/5 is a crazy price, that lad who had half a million must be mad. For a start, you look at the breeding, Camelot's progeny are far from proven over national hunt, and I would have serious question marks that this can make it up the hill in what I expect will be a pretty quickly run race. Then you look at the competition, pretty much all the trainers in the field are in form and you only need the one horse in the large field (consider it's full of lightly raced 4 year olds, not hard for any to improve) and Sir Erec could easily be in trouble.

Pacha to win 3 in a row would be some going. Pretty much everything against him but I'll have a small bit on him.

So even if you pick each way the horse still has to win? So each way isn’t three horses placing and it pays out, what happens if one horse wins and another places?

It is, but it's an awful return..... for example:

€10 e/w treble means you have two bets: a €10 'Win treble' and a €10 'Place treble'.

If your first horse wins at 4/1 for example (where it's 1/4 the odds for horses to place) that means €50 would go on to your next selection to win and €20 for it to place.... and if your second horse wins too, that would see €250 going on to your last selection to win and €40 for it to place.

If all three of your horses win, the 'win treble' part of the e/w bet would pay €1250 and the 'place treble' part €80.

    Win treble: (1) €10 at 4/1=€50, (2) €50 at 4/1=€250, (3) €250 at 4/1 = €1,250.
    Place Treble: (1) €10 at Evens, (2) €20 at Evens, (3) €40 at Evens = €80.
So altogether, you'd be looking at a return of €1,330 in total.

Some people (understandably) think that when their first horse wins the combined winnings (which would be €70 in this example: €50 from the 'win' portion of the e/w bet and €20 for the 'place' portion) would be then split and result in them having €35 e/w on their 2nd horse.... but no, that's not how it works unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective I guess) .

If you wanted to do that (split any returns from a first selection winning to go onto the 2nd selection e/w) you'd have to back the horses one at a time and place then bets yourself after each race.

Absolutely, Nicholls horse Pic D'RHY over 2 miles is a much better bet @ 12-1

1.30 - Runrized 100/1 - small ew. Pic DOhry also (money back if Sir wins)
    2:10 - Eclair de Beaufeu - ew
2:50 - not sure, prob leave alone
3:30 - Clan Des Obeaux (lets be havin ya!)

Double of Clan des Obeaux and Eclair De Beufeu also
will see how these go before hedging all bets!

It is, but it's an awful return..... for example:

€10 e/w treble means you have a €10 'Win treble' and a €10 'place treble' (you effectively get two bets that have nothing to do with each other).

If your first horse wins at 4/1 for example in a €10 e/w treble (where it's a 1/4 the odds a place) that just rolls into €50 going on to your next horse to win and €20 onto that next horse to place.

What happens with a €10 e/w treble (for example) is that you get a €10 'win treble' and a €10 'place only treble).

So for the win part (if it came up) you'd have a return of €1250 for the win portion of your bet (4/1 x 3) and for the place part you'd get €80 (Evens x 3).

Some people (understandably) think that because they have got €50 for the win part of the first horse winning and €20 as it also placed, this €70 will now be split into €35 e/w (and so on) but that's not how it works.

If you want that, you're better off doing single e/w bets.

I really appreciate your time to reply Pete. Thank you!

    No bother...

Paddy Power's (and some others, especially online) allow 'place only' doubles, trebles etc by the way, and so you don't always have to waste money on the win part of an e/w bet if what you really fancy is your three (or however many) horses just to place in their races.

You'll kick yourself if they all did win mind and you'd only backed them all to place :P

    Good luck.
