Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    2nd Leg Match Odds

    Juventus 4/6
    Draw 13/5
    Atletico Madrid4/1

    To qualify

    Juventus 31/10
    Atletico Madrid 2/7

A Champions League contender is guaranteed to fall tonight but will it be the Serie A champions-in-waiting, or the team sitting second in La Liga?

The home side are missing Alex Sandro through suspension, while Khedira, Barzagli, De Sciglio and Douglas Costa aren't fit enough to feature. The visitors will be without Diego Costa and Partey who are suspended, while Hernandez and Filipe Luis are ruled out through injury.

How do you see this one going?

I think Juve can still do it. Normally I wouldn't give a team in their predicament much of a hope against Atletico, but most sides don't have a player like Ronaldo. If he can capture some of the form he showed in the latter stages of the competition last year I could see this game being taken to Extra-Time and possibly pens. Question is can Juve keep out Atletico at the other end? Morata looks likely to start and it would be some story if he finishes off his former side tonight.

I can see a very cynical type Atletico performance tonight.

Sit deep and take fouls in non dangerous positions and try and shut Juventus down for the first half.

If any team and manager are capable of it, its Simeone and Atletico.

I cant see Juventus turning it around, they'll need an exceptional performance 1 - 11 to overturn this game but I suppose with Ronaldo in your side, you cant really rule them out.

Its a cliché but the first goal is massive tonight, if Juve get it early they'll smell blood, if Atleti score anytime, the game is pretty much done and dusted.

Juventus have to score in the first half. Need to make them sweat. Athletico are going to be dangerous on the counter though.

Juventus: Szczesny; Cancelo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Spinazzola; Can, Pjanic, Matuidi; Bernardeschi, Mandzukic; Ronaldo

Juventus bench: Perin, Caceres, Dybala, Kean, Rugani, Bentancur, Nicolussi Caviglia

Atletico Madrid: Oblak; Arias, Gimenez, Godin, Juanfran; Koke, Rodrigo, Saul, Lemar; Griezmann; Morata

Atletico Madrid bench: Adan, Savic, Montero, Vitolo, Mikel Carro, Kalinic, Correa

Might work but Spinazzola & Bernadeschi is a risk.

    I think that's a goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,463 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Should be a goal, keeper had no control of the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Good start by Juve but need the goal to show for it or it will end up like Dortmund vs Spurs.

Can see it given either way. Id say its a goal, but can understand the decision. Would have liked ot as a neutral!

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Awful decision.

Rugby refs don't always get it right but it's incredible how much better they are at those sorts of straightforward calls.

Whether it's poorly worded laws or just crap refs, they don't seem to o that sort of obvious error.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,337 ✭✭✭✭monkey9

In real time, it looked like the ref got it wrong, but looking at the replay it's the right decision. Keeper wasn't in full control, but Ronaldo did foul him. No clear and obvious error on the referee's part for VAR to overrule it.

Completely took out Oblak. Clear to see why it's not been given.

Nearly forgot that Can and his beautiful hair went to Juve.

Yeah can see why it's not given, very tough call even with the replay. Ronaldo gets the ball before he has control but does stop him from being part of the play after that.

But that's only because the keeper clatters into him.
It's not Ronaldo's job to get out of the keeper's way. If that was the case then any time a keeper cleans out an attacker diving at a ball at their feet, it'd be automatically a foul on the keeper.

  • Ref doing a good job keeping the game flowing

    Good watch so far

    I really don’t like Atletico.

Hope Juventus knock them out for the good of the competition.

Can playing in the Henderson position!

Juventus won't beat 9 centre backs.

I dont think oblak was letting one in from there. He always semmed to have it covered

    Probably right.

I'm surprised Ronaldo didn't take it

Bernardeschi has justified his selection so far.

Bernardeschi has justified his selection so far.

Jesus it’s ALL Juve now, camped in the Athletico half, Their defenders can’t get near them.

  • Nearly! Juve have a tonne of options from crosses and corners

So much threat in the air

  • Morata is brutal

Huge chance for Morata. That would have flattened Juve.

Half-Time. Allegri will be pretty happy with things overall so far.

Jesus what a chance, the ball by Koke...

How did video officials get that wrong?

He was 100% entitled to go for that ball

How often do you see a keeper coming out to punch a ball and clattering into several players?

    Brilliant goal. Some man

Griezmann did a full 180 when he had a chance to kick on which started the whole move for the goal. So negative they dont deserve much imo.
