Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    bayern-vs-liverpool.jpg

    2nd Leg Match Odds

    Bayern Munich 11/10
    Draw 23/10
    Liverpool 12/5

    To qualify

    Bayern Munich 9/10
    Liverpool 20/23

Another big Champions League contender set to fall tonight as Klopp returns to Germany to take on his old foes Bayern. The tie is nicely poised at 0-0 with everything to play for.

The home side will be without Kimmich and Muller through suspension, with Robben and Tolisso not fit to feature; Coman is rated as doubtful. Liverpool will be without Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gomez through injury, with doubts on the fitness of Alexander-Arnold, Milner and Lovren.

What do you think will happen tonight?

Bayern have found their shooting boots of late, scoring 11 goals in their last two games. And while Liverpool have had no trouble scoring goals at home, they've been held goalless away in their last two matches; I believe the last time they scored twice in a match away from home was a 2-0 win at Wolves before Christmas. That would suggest a strong defensive performance is vital tonight and the battle between Van Dijk and Lewandowski is one I'm looking forward to.

I would be surprised if Bayern can keep Liverpool at bay for a second time so I fancy Liverpool to score tonight. Then it's a question of whether Bayern can manage to score twice against this tough defence. I expect they'll manage one but fall short for the second; I think Kimmich is a big loss for his attacking attributes. I reckon Liverpool to advance on away goals. Expecting good games from Fabinho, Wijnaldum and Van Dijk.

    Thinking a draw myself.

Going to be close. Interesting to see if Bayern score first will they try sit and hold.

If Liverpool score first think they'll shut shop and counter attack.

Simon Gleave, head of sports analysis, Gracenote:

"The 0-0 first leg result improved Liverpool's chance of making it to the quarter-finals from 35% to 39% according to the Euro Club Index.

"Opponents Bayern Munich are the third best team in Europe according to the ECI ranking with Liverpool eighth. Visiting Bayern is approximately equivalent to visiting Manchester City who Liverpool eliminated from this competition last year."

    Team news:
Bayern Munich XI: Neuer; Rafinha, Sule, Hummels, Alaba; Martinez, Thiago; Gnabry, James, Ribery; Lewandowski.

Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Milner, Henderson; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Surprised Klopp benched Fabinho. Big call.

Lineker: "Anything could happen tonight Michael"
Owen: "Absolutely anything.Yeah, I would hate to predict it. I actually fancy Liverpool to go through."

Hopefully the dodgy decisions for English teams in the CL continue tonight.

Liverpool have been a major beneficiary of those decisions so it would play in their favour alright.

Yes that's why he said he hopes they get desicions as it would be beneficial.

Wish both teams could lose tonight because this is hands down one of the worst matches I've ever seen.

    Exactly.

Incorrect offside decision in their favour already!

Neuer absolutely crap since coming back from injury

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Mane makes it 1-0. What a pass from VVD. Neuer poor.

    The game needed that.

No need for Neuer to be out there..two defenders there

    1-1. Matip O.G.

Robertson the one at fault though. Surprised as he rarely puts a foot wrong.

    Strikers finish from Matip

Bayern really aren’t as good as they used to be

Feel sorry for Matip there. Nothing much he could do.

Interesting there. Are assistants refs being told not to flag for offside until the move is complete due to VAR being available?

Slow enough for the first 25 minutes. Neither team seemed to want to commit too many players forward, both defences playing deep and knocking balls up for the forwards to battle for.

Since the first goal it has changed so much, both teams more open and moving the ball much faster, and both defences looking shaky when under attack.

Second half should be a cracker.

Bayern didn't look to me like they had much creativity prior to the goal which came from Robertson switching off. Their bench could be important. Goretzka is in good form and would be a handy option.

Bayern with a few more chances but interesting 2nd half coming up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

Liverpool still in a great position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Liverpool on top atm. Winning the midfield battle. Kovac surely needs to change it. I'd put Goretzka on.

    Coman on for Ribery.

This is hard to watch, awful game. Mane's bit of skill for the goal the only flash of quality so far

Not much quality on show from either side, really. The fear of losing, I guess.

Pure muck so far, everyone left in will want the winners of this, our pass completion is awful

This match is awful and is a hard watch for a neutral quality wise. I suppose it’s understandable with so much at stake. Still reckon there is another goal in this though.
