Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The young fellow who plays Sheldon in Young Sheldon, excellent casting

That same young actor when he played Ziggy in Big Little Lies

Just googled him and his name is Iain Armitage

    Ralph Fiennes in Harry Potter.

Always thought he would have made a great Voldemort and when his casting was announced it was "Quelle Surprise".

Casting kids is an interesting one. Daniel Radcliffe was an inspired choice. The gravity of the decision meant the role would likely need to last over multiple films and through his puberty. It worked out well and he was a good actor as an added bonus. John Connor for Terminator 2 was also spot on.

However, watching this I think the casting was wrong. Jake Loyd was far too weak. The blonde kid just knocks it out of the park.

The Phantom Menace would still have been sh1t but I guess with a solid core performance it would have been less sh1t.

Ian McShane as Al sweerenger, still would of been an excellent show regardless but he really did elevate it to another level. My favorite line "Get you're **** smeared ass off my balcony "lol.

John Malkovich in "Being John Malkovich"...

As mentioned earlier most of the cast of Justified. Timothy Olyphant as Raylan, Walton Goggins as Boyd (as well as being outstanding in the Shield) and Damon Herriman as Dewey.

And of course Tim Gutterson (Jacob Pitts) for being such a badass.

That show rarely took a mis-step when it came to casting. Can't think of any at the moment but its been a while. Must rewatch.

I agree with Patrick Stewart being a great Captain but I think he was terribly mis-cast as a French person, retiring to the vineyards or meeting his brother were terrible.
He was originally also going to have a French accent. At least they didn't stick with that!

    Jean-Claude Van Damme in JCVD

    really

    From wikipedia
JCVD is a 2008 Belgian crime drama film directed by French Tunisian film director Mabrouk El Mechri, and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as a semi-fictionalized version of himself, a down and out action star whose family and career are crumbling around him as he is caught in the middle of a post office heist in his hometown of Brussels, Belgium

Glee casting Idina Menzel as Rachel's mother in Glee. Her and Lea Michele look so alike it's uncanny!

Matthew Grey Gubler as Dr Spencer Reid in Criminal Minds.

    Also-

Anthony Stuart Head as Giles and James Marsters as Spike, both in Buffy and the latter in Angel.

Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin already mentioned but Alan Tudyk deserving of a place too.

    Finally-

Honorable mention for Dave Batista as Drax, it shouldn't by any rights work but by god it's perfect.

ADDITIONALLY- Michael K Williams as Omar Little in The Wire. A lot of that cast was spot on but the one in particular was standout, along with Andre Royo as Bubbles.

Dunno - I could never quite get past him being a slightly different cop in The Commish

Hooray! Someone else remembers one of my favourite shows :)

I've been listening to the audiobooks of Jim Butcher's "Dresden Files" series this last week - not my usual genre, "Urban Fantasy" I think it's called - read by James Marsters from Buffy. Splendid.

Anyway, there's a recurrimg antagonist in the first few books: the vampire, Bianca. As I do, I try to picture who'd play such a character on screen, so I was not only delighted to discover there was an ill-fated TV series, but Bianca was played by the pale, gorgeous and utterly sublime Joanne Kelly of "Warehouse 13" fame.

(This may be as obscure as Andy's "Commish" reference.)

...read by James Marsters from Buffy.
Duh! I see now that James has already been mentioned.

Tangentially, Mark Sheppard* can do no wrong in my eyes: Valda in WH13, Sterling in Leverage, Crowley in Supernatural...

*And in interviews, he comes across as a really sound bloke too.

Oh, one last one: the late Ralph Waite as Jethro's father on NCIS.

I don't watch NCIS, but he's been playing someone's father since the 70s. He's a great man for standing up for actors and crew too.

Paul Eddington, Nigel Hawthorne and Derek Fowlds in Yes Minister.

Another shout for BobBob Odenkirk, Michael McKean, and Jonathan Banks in Better Call Saul, but I'd add Rhea Seehorn and Patrick Fabian to the list.

Arthur Lowe and John Le Mesurier in Dad's Army.

    Jurgen Prochnow in Das Boot.

Having read the book before watching the show I think Yvonne Strahovski's Serena Joy in The Handmaid's Tale is spot on and she really captures the character's complex horribleness.

wiki often list what actors were considered, there is probably a general website doing the same. Often the alternatives sound crazy to me, but I could have pictured these 2 doing it.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Santa#Production
Jack Nicholson and Bill Murray[4][5] were both interested in playing the role of Willie, but were already filming Something's Gotta Give and Lost in Translation, respectively
