Went in to have a look at some cars once and promptly walked out again. All UK imports, none of which had been reregistered, working out of a portacabin. Looks like my opinion that they were as dodgy as f was correct.

this is coming along time - yet people from all over the country buy from places like this - you just know by the feel of the place somethings not right - know someone who went to look at nearly new Land cruiser - with no vat invoice - going cheap - but he sussed something wasnt right

Just out of curiosity, what happens to anyone who bought a car from them on a finance deal? What happens with the repayments now?

That's pretty standard for motor dealers selling UK imported used cars. Motor dealers are allowed keep the old UK plates on them until they are sold. They only get Irish plates when they are sold to customers.

You other suspicions were spot on though. Something was always a bit odd about how they were located right next door to a halting site yet never once did their premises or stock interest their neighbours.

Your contract is with the finance company unless the finance company was just a front.

What does this mean ? Are you saying that the travellers would be scared of them and instead of robbing them which would be inevitable they simply were too chicken or are you saying that the halting site was involved. Either of these are quite serious accusations to be honest.

Was Lyons or O'Maras ever targeted by that family, sure O'Maras was right across the road from that site.

Following his same logic, Lyons of Limerick are dodgy too. (they're not!)

Basically saying the only reason they didn't rob the place was because of who was supposedly pumping money into the dealership.

Just a mobile number on website, no land line. No genuine company has just a pay as you go mobile

Of course they do.have been around for years, they're not a fly ny night operation. They were in Newcastle West before moving to the city.

if these places knew how to fly other the radar a bit - they wouldnt attract such attention - but if you open up out of the blue from a portacabin and have fairly flashy vehicles on show - alarm bells ring .
of course these type of people have big egos and dont know how to keep a low profile.
without naming the place , anyone know where in Tipp . the other car dealer was ?

Yep..Dealers have to keep them on UK plates until they are sold..they are not allowed to register to themselves..

not true - some do register and some dont until sold - if they register them on importation - it means they have more money tied up in them on forecourt and it might put off a customer not local to garage having diff. county reg.

Considering the raid they can't be legit.

I say "allegedly" for a good reason. This has been rumoured, speculated about for years. We will have to see what charges, if any, are brought against the proprietors

Sooo halting sites are full of thieves and if you are near one and not a gangster you are getting robbed.

This is a stereotype that is wrong

They can register them to themselves if they want, but they have to pay the VRT then, so if someone from Clare or Tipperary walked in, the car would already be L reg, there’s no advantage in paying the VRT before you sell. It would ruin the cash flow (well, for a normally financed garage anyway!)
