Ikea had an offer on at christmas, which was buy a christmas tree and get a €20 voucher to spend in store. There was an expiry date on the vouchers.
Does anyone know if there's any legality regarding these kind of vouchers?
I know there was talk recently about vouchers and expiry dates but don't know what the outcome was?
Is it a case of if Ikea, or wherever, are offering this as part of the offer, it's up to them to put the expiry on and whether to honour it past that or not?

There is no legal restriction on expiry date of vouchers at the moment.

This specific case of a voucher provided with a sale would basically be the same as a mail-in rebate, with start and end validity, and there's no restrictions on them either.

They are not obliged to honour it past expiry, and staff are unlikely to have any ability to change that decision.

Surely as this was simply a promotional voucher, they can put any conditions they wish including requesting that you wear a blue and yellow shirt when using it. A lot of places use vouchers like this. Dunnes would be a classic with their €10 off €50 spend and the voucher valid for about 10 days. Even when new laws come in about gift vouchers, these would unlikely to be included as there was no cash transaction for the voucher itself.
