Surely time to split Laois in two?

Can't bate local radio commentary for GAA. Put a tenner on Laois before the game, too much exaggeration on the quality difference between Joe McDonagh and the likes of Dublin.

Thats the difference, a week on the piss!

going to be some smug head on Eddie now but fair play too him and Laois. Nobody gave them a chance even the bookies and they have knocked out Dublin and are back in Croke Park for an All Ireland Quarter final.

The GAA will be a small bit annoyed now as there Marquee match for next sunday at 4pm is now Tipp vs Laois (Kil vs Cork at 2pm) and not Tipp vs Dublin

    Dublin will be irrate

Well well I didn't see that coming and that was no disrespect to Laois. Was it 16 wides that Dublin had ? Doesn't matter what level of hurling it is hitting sixteen wides will have you struggling.

Was an absolute joy listening to Midlands there.

Well done Laois, underdog stories like that is what makes any competition great.

Yeah was listening to it. I was delighted when he said a player I didnt know as meant it was a Laois lad had it!

Fair play to Laois. Yeah didn't expect them to get the win, knew it'd be closer than the other game, but this is outstanding.

Gaa rightly shown up here. I'd say they wouldn't have dreamt of Croke Park being used had this happened

Fair play to Laois. Hopefully they get the coverage they deserve on TSG tonight rather than the minute or two a win for Dublin might have got

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 906 ✭✭✭Ompala

Fair play to Laois and Eddie Brennan, look forward to meeting them in the Quarters :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 693 ✭✭✭grbear

And people want the provinces moved to 6 teams! Standard in the Joe McDonagh is really poor.

    This aged well.

And yes, I am aware that I said that they should get rid of the preliminary quarter finals yesterday.

    Happy to be proven wrong.

It's likely your own county (cork) will get the 1 or 2 minute treatment today after that turkey shoot, but it would be extremely bad form of laois get the same treatment

Puts galways performance against the dubs into perspective wrt all-ireland ambitions....

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,151 ✭✭✭letowski

Is the Laois win more of a sign how far they have come.. or an indication of the level of hurling of the top teams in Leinster??

Or in other words, how will LAOvTIP and KKvCOR go. I think the Munster teams are a bit ahead, but maybe its my bias. We will see.

    Anyway well done to Laois.

    Thanks for the updates.

Great work by Eddie Brennan, not forgetting the players.

Delighted for Laois but sorry either had to lose. Hurling needs the few counties it has including Dublin.

Good luck to Laois next day.

No county has a right to be in the top tier of hurling

    Well done Laois

This is what happens when teams don't respect their opposition. Galway didn't give Dublin the respect they were due and paid the price. Today Dublin did the same. No right minded person would claim that Lapis are better than Galway though a glance at those two results would suggest otherwise. However if you take that view then Laois are better than Kilkenny too.

Well done to Laois. Hope they put it up to Tipp on Sunday. If not, they can give Leinster a right go next year.

Delighted for laois. I always lean towards the underdog but I felt Laois were going to get seriously derailed today and I'm delighted to be proven wrong.

Best of luck to them on the next day out.

    How's your bitter lemons?

What bitter lemons? Delighted for them that they won, but it's still a farce. Not their fault though or an excuse for Dublim

Given Marty was there for the football game it will probably get a good few minutes coverage.

A team win a competition and get a chance against the big boys. I fail to see the farce either. You don’t improve unless playing better opposition.

I was impressed by Laois against Westmeath last week, they made very good use of the ba

I was impressed by Laois against Westmeath last week, they made very good use of the ball. I think that playing for a third week in a row will tell against them but hope they put up a creditable performance.

Presumably the GAA fixed the QFs for Croke Park thinking Dublin would bring a bit of a crowd.

If tipp show them the lack of respect that Dublin did it's a possibility but I would be very surprised if they came within 8

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,863 ✭✭✭roadmaster

Went to the Westmeath cork game. Cork without doubt where better in every way from physical to skill but I taught Westmeath underperformed they seam to be defeated before they got on the pitch with no real bite to there play. Apart from that cusack park is lovely place to watch a game

It’s not a farce at all. The Blaas had four gos at Top tier opposition this year and got their arse handed to them every single time. Laois had one go and took it with both hands. Fair ****s to them.
On this day I think all Blaas should keep the head down and be thankful for having Munster hurling next year.

Tipp got a trimming by Limerick and there's a chance that they could be underpar. But knowing Sheedy and the experience in their team they wont be. But this is actually a very good Laois team, better than I thought, to go toe to toe with a tier 1 team and win over 70 mins is a serious acheivement

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 803 ✭✭✭woohoo!!!

Great result for Laois and whilst bitterly dissppointing for Dublin having dumped out Galway it shows that hurling is in a healthy place. A step up v Tipp but I think they'll give them a good rattle.

Unfortunately no matter how hard people try to push it, Dublin are not a top tier hurling team. No significant attempts or even come close to winning Leinster in the last ten or fifteen years
There is the top 5 at the moment limerick kk cork tip Galway and everybody else is also rans. Middle tier should be reabsorbed into the top tier.antrim Carlow Westmeath etc can only get better by playing better competition.

Fair play Laois and Crocker will still be fairly full next week

Indeed. Dublin just didnt perform with the same aggression as they did against Galway, disapointing.
We cant have any complaints though Laois deserved winners. Best of luck to them against Tipp.

I’d agree with you in that they are not a consistent top tier hurling team but they did win Leinster in 2013 and could well have been in the AI Final.

If Westmeath had faced Dublin they'd have given them s good game too
Laois and Westmeath have no fear of Dublin

Fair play Laois. As a munsterman, its great to be able to say Leinster hurling has really stepped up to the mark this year and given us all some great entertainment. Remember Westmeath giving Tipp a bit of a rattle in 2017, no reason for Laois not to think they can do the same.

Clare won two games, one against Cork who just set a new point total record against the Other team to be given the opportunity today on account of reaching the Joe McDonagh final. You think Westmeath deserve to have gone further in the championship than Clare??

You don't get 4 one off attempts at making the all Ireland quarter finals by participating in the provincial groups. You have to finish ahead of 2 teams through 4 gruelling games to get there.

You've completely misinterpreted the basis for what I said, just to have a go off Waterford. We were nowhere near good enough to qualify this year regardless of the format so there's no sour grapes there. I simply don't agree with this format.

It is what it is though, and it was a fantastic result for Laois. Biggest shock I can remember.

i dont think it was as big a shock as people say , from the point that i arrived in portlaoise today you could sense from the locals that they were bullish about there chances , to be fair anytime they are up for it the are a handful especially at home , they pushed us to an inch of our lives a few years ago in a league 1/4 final , also given galway a few scares too in the past

they are a good side just don't back it up enough , they also need a bit of extra from the gaa also to help them on a bit , step 1 would be scrap the relegation for the championship for a few years
