I bought a new (second hand) car today. I am wondering what the fastest way to get a tax disc is? I can lay it online but that could take a while to get the disc out so ideally I wouldn’t wait that long to collect the car.

I've always had a disc within 3 days of buying online.

Besides, when you buy online, you get a receipt you can print off in lieu of disc while you wait as proof if stopped.

You'll need to wait until the ownership is transferred to you, then quickest way to do it is at tax office. If you have proof of purchase to show if you're stopped by guards you should be ok for a couple of weeks

But if your car is parked and empty you may fall foul of the "not displaying" rules!

Taxed online bank holiday Monday. Tax in windscreen on Thursday morning.
Otherwise, go que in your local motor tax office and you’ll have it there and then.

Also, you can go into said tax office and do the change of ownership there and then and also tax it there and then. Once you have the filled out VLC of course.
