A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Maybe hes worried after the pathetic abuse that was dished out to Peter Casey.

Anyone, anyone really who has the bottle to call this stuff out for what it is would top the poll.

There is no nice way of saying it, but people are fed up to the back teeth of this tip toeing around a very nasty issue in our society.

Travellers are not above the law, but they actually can be most of the time due to constant recidivism. Eyes roll, not you again Connors, six months suspended, Next!

At least Operation Thor is proving to be successful, long may it continue. Organised Crime is being tackled regardless of whether they are Travellers or not. They have one thing in common, they are criminals with no regard for the law of the land.

There..... I feel better after that :P
    You and me both. !

How the fúck do you decide to live in a caravan, then demand housing and after you destroy it, complain about it being destroyed and demand more be built?

The spinless councillers we vote in won't say a word to them about it.

I'm looking forward to mentioning it to them when they come to the door looking for my vote.

It really just takes one Councillor to say it out, then the rest will follow because, well you know, Travellers don't bother voting anyway so policitians need to listen to those who do.

I do realise that there are laws out there under the Equality Act and so on, but realistically Travellers haven't a hope of being protected under that since they are not a separate race anyway. Neither are non Traveller organised crime gangs either.

Time to get tough now. Very happy to see that Operation Thor is yielding results. Needs to be ongoing now, just like it is/was for the other gangs too.

It has all gone a bit quiet now, which is a great credit to the new Commissioner. Those who went before him never lifted a finger really.

Was talking to a former councillor today who told me of a colleague of his came under so much pressure from these guys to get them anything and everything that they could claim, he had a nervous breakdown over them.
The pressure and threats nearly finished him.

Operation Thor is going on now because of the Local Elections.

When that's all done & dusted, assume Thor is over.

I'd love to see it continue, but it's worth mentioning to canvassers coming to your door.

All they have to do is tape the travellers demanding stuff and threatening him and then go to the guards. If people started standing up to this lot, they wouldn't get away with so much.

It seems that every thing attached to Travellers nowadays is pure dirt.

Is there any decent Travellers left to swing things into a positive light?

I think there isn't at this stage.

Hit them all with a big stick till they are all gone.

Only way to deal with them now.

They were too well looked after for far too long & now we are all paying the price for it.

they were not to well looked after. they were simply given the same opportunities, treatment and protections as the rest of society. protections they especially need because of those who think every single traveler is the same, who fanticize about certain actions they would like to happen to them, who support or even engage in discrimination against them, not caring or bothering about the fact that there will be travelers who are not involved in criminality and who do contribute to society.

One of the things that stops the law or settled people getting involved or stopping travellers disgusting behaviour is they know they will be threatened and have their homes or other family members targeted.

There is no point any decent member of society engaging with a trouble making traveller as he knows they are not subject to the same criminal law that settled people are.

nope, they aren't all such a violent and disgusting disaster. certainly a number of them are violent and disgusting and they are rightly dealt with for their behaviour. but they all are not as such and you will need to come to terms with that reality.
Holy horrors of humanity, the lot of them.

    nope, some.
You tell everyone here how to solve the problem of these savages.

Savages that are payed for & supported by hard pressed, hard working taxpayers of this country.

what is currently being done. lock them up. it's as simple as that. insure the police are properly funded and resourced so that no criminal traveler or settled can slip through the cracks. increase sentences as well.
You have no real answers to this, just waffle.

i've given the answers above. that is the best you are going to get. you are never going to eradicate criminality. no society is crime free. all you can do is keep the dangerous ones locked up for as long as possible or even indefinitely, and keep locking up the lower level ones each time they commit a crime worthy of being locked up.
People like you just can make any problem in the world worse than it already is.

it is me who is the one that would be willing to deal with the issue. it is you and others who have no actual workable solutions and not me.

It's a pity they didn't go a bit further out of the area, close by in the ballybane neighborhood project , buildings abandoned, fine places, behind that in a lane you simply don't go down is a encampment that will make you reverse pretty sharpish.. illegal camping ,dumping, car dismantling ,a frightful place, and they live there,by design.

In future years the state's policy of indulging this way of life will be viewed in the same way industrial schools and mother and baby homes are now. Imagine a new-born traveller baby being brought home to a halting site -accommodation that ranks in the Irish hierarchy maybe slightly above a bed in a wet hostel - the state is effectively saying "that's your lot in life kid."

    A very basic question .

What percentage of the traveller community work ..??

It seems like they all expect the tax payer to pay for everything ... large amounts of welfare , children’s allowance etc etc ... as good as free houses ...those working are no better off than them

I guess less than 5 % of travellers work ( contribute ) to society

Whether it’s being argued that they’re a race or an ethnic minority, either way it’s rubbish. They are Irish like the rest of us, albeit the lifestyle and inbreeding has led to some severe health issues in many cases. It is morally wrong to impose the Traveller way of life on young children, and it’s for that reason that our politicians need to come up with a final solution to the Traveller issue.

Fcuk this government and their a#s hat ways we need people that will tell it how it is and get that dangerous one zapone out as she will end up bankrupting us.

We end up with more taxes to pay for these travellers, they get housing and destroy it and the neighborhood around, they Rob people, their houses, cables, anything bolted down or not, rob exhausts off vehicles and even wheels and go as far as even turn a car on its side to do so.

When will the babying around them stop as I've never come across a thicker bunch in my life.

Imagine being so lazy and backwards that you are given free houses to live in, then you burn the houses and sell them for scrap while a horse lives in another one of the houses, then expect to be given more free houses.

The horse deserves to have the house, he's a higher being and more important in society than the other wastes of oxygen.

They also 'traditionally' burn houses and caravans to the ground if someone dies in one.
All four caravans were set alight at the entrance of the Glynmill Caravan Site in Merthyr, including one which Mrs Marshall bought only a month before her death.

Not really. Up till a few years ago practically every thread with a negative slant against travellers would have been shut down a fairly short order.

I’m guessing that site policy has been infused with reality. In the same way that there’d be no point in shutting down a discussion on how apples, by and large, tend to be really very ‘appley’. Some people might of course enter such a discussion, arguing that many apples are orangey, and that they even met an apple once that was completely grapefruity.

Apples are apples. Can’t argue with reality.

    :D

My wife works in the local Tesco, a pair of our ethnic friends went up and tried to pay for stuff with a dud 50. Security got it, they tried to take it back claiming that they had got it from someone who they sold an iPhone to.
Also turns out that they had also robbed 2 dressing gowns by wearing them and walking out.
Couldn't challenge them because they didn't see it until the cctv was reviewed.

And these arseholes want to be treated fairly..stop being a thieving cu.nt and we will.

Garda are currently at a halting site in Sligo which was featured in that RTÉ traveller program a while back. It appears their illegal scrap metal activities are being shut down)

They are the family (McDonaghs) who are living in the car park and wouldn’t move to another area as they were feuding with the other traveller family (Ward) residing there. The council we’re going to build a wall to keep them separate.
