Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Afolabi doing very well with the few scrappy breaks he's getting. Good pace and strength.

Thought France had scored there. O'Connor with a goalline clearance.

Why did the ref drop the ball there?

    France score. It was coming.

Ireland at all levels seem to be more reactive than proactive. Some tidy players coming through especially Hodge but unfortunately as a collective we just cant seem to put teams under the cosh.

We gave the tournament favourites a game so I think it's a respectable showing. Still a chance to progress as well against the Czechs.

Afolabi looked very good up top. Just looked him up and apparently he's without a club. Can't imagine that will be the case for long.

Afolabi done some running. We try to do the right things but we can never seem to sustain any significant amount of pressure near the opposition goal.

Unlucky for the U19s not to hold on for the draw. France are now guaranteed top spot in the group, if France hammer Norway a draw maybe enough to get out of group I think.

Fair play to lad. He's doing very well for himself over in Slovakia and they now play Atromitos F.C. (Greek) in the next round.

I'm very excited about Ronan. Great to hear he's getting European and first team experience.

Callum Robinson in squad for Sheffield Utd today. Should get his first minutes of game time

Stoke trying McClean at LB. Worth a go. He’s useless LW and the few times he was tried as a target man.

Good move for him if it goes ahead. Watched the highlights of Birmingham's friendly yesterday, Crowley was instrumental, scoring and creating.

Robinson & McGoldrick have more competition as Lys Mousset has now arrived as a striker. Looks a stranger move for Robinson now.

Great to hear. Playing on the same pitch versus Ronaldo and Buffon, some experience for a 17 year old.

Can't belive that old fossil will be in goal for Juve again he wasn't great for PSG last season

Amazing what Parrott is doing at his age. Delighted for him.

Great finish by Afolabi - very good composure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Great goal from Afolabi!

And he should have an assist as well as he put a great cross in for Kavanagh earlier who should have scored.

Not a fan of Maher in goal. Almost cost us there.

The lad has been doing some Trojan work as the lone striker in this tournament. Lovely finish for the goal and it's scary how quick he is. Be interesting to know why Southampton released him, as himself and Obafemi are the same age but Irish coaches at underage seemed to rate Afolabi higher given Obafemis lack of games at underage but Obafemi is the one that's progressed to the seniors at club level.

I'm assuming France need to win by two goals for us to go through if it was to end in a draw between us and the Czechs

    Yep.

Just checked it there and seems we'd still go through if the Czechs score as long as Norway don't score as we've scored more goals than them.

    Damn, 1-1.

2-1! That's how you respond to an equaliser!

    Coffey with a nice finish.

Joe Hodge, for someone that's 16 is a serious player. Afolabi doing some serious work tonight.

Well done coaches and mentors whatever the result.

O'Connor booked for time wasting and misses the next game. :(

And now Afolabi booked and misses the next game. FFS.

    That ref has overreacted entirely.
    Can we appeal these cards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

We never seem to get much luck from these refs at youth level.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,815 ✭✭✭D14Rugby

    This ref is absolutely ****e

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,441 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

There seems to be so many referees at this level desperate to hand out cards to make themselves centre of attention. Same with the referee at the U16s last year.
By rights, that Czech player should have gotten a second yellow because of his reaction to the first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

Another power hungry loser much like the bloke at last years u17s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,989 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

If the u20 world cup was next summer then we'd have qualified by reaching the semis. Next year's tournament which will determine who'll qualify for the u20 world cup will be held in Northern Ireland.
