Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hourihane has had a few great set pieces already

    McClean has been disappointing

Hope Brady is studying Hourihane's set pieces.

I hope I’m wrong, but gotta a feeling those two missed chances will play into Gibraltar hands.

The Gibraltar GK looks like a lad who's asked to play because the regular agK hasn't turned up.

He's got very lucky for a few crosses but he's also made one great save.
    :o

Not sure many realise how difficult it is to play a passing game on an artificial pitch on a windy day.

Yes, it's not pretty but what dya expect. There's a reason many absolutely despise playing on these kind of pitches.

This isn't a fair reflection on the players or management so far

    So stupid that

It's tough into the breeze and facing the rock up front can't help the boys mentally. They've kept things tight for the first half. With Ireland being fitter than the opposition they should be able to take advantage of some poor Gibraltar tackles in the second half.

    Maguire offering zero

David McGoldrick playing like one of the full time milkmen being referred to here. Sean Maguire playing like someone who doesn’t show up to whatever his full time job is.

Hopefully McClean has made up Mccarthy's mind there to haul him off at HT.

Might have to get McClean off.

It could get very frustrating second half and can't be having the risk of something silly.

Agreed. He’s been the biggest disappointment of the 11 out there.

Cant see us scoring here and we will take over as the laughing stock of football from Scotland

  • It's actually not that bad. The usual over exaggerating going on.

The conditions and the pitch are ****e. I think with the wind with us and the Gibralter team fading of fitness the goals will come.

We've had a few chances there where on another day would have went it.

Ah here, he pulled out of that tackle, never a card.

I've only logged in here, been watching the game, is McClean the designated scapegoat today, yea?

Forwards played off scraps, not sure how criticism could be labelled at them. Duffy thinking he's a better long passer than he actually is, especially in wind like this, doesn't help. The centre midfield trying to feed the ball into the strikers has been zero.

If it ends 0-0 or 1-0 to them there won't be a little asterisk beside the game about the wind and pitch. They won't give us three points for it either.

A case of grabbing 1 from a set piece and getting out of there with 3 points. Performance is irrelevant today,

Anybody getting that Lichtenstein feeling here, without the goalkeeper heroics

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I wouldn't be overly concerned yet. The chances have been there. I imagine McCarthy will leave it as is for at least the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Pity we don't have O'Dowda for this game. The options on the bench aren't great. O'Brien for the one of the strikers looks the most obvious one.

He's been the worst player on the pitch anyway, not sure about scapegoat.

He kicked him on the bottom of the boot when he could have actually pulled out. Criticism doesn't mean it's scapegoat but it's handy for people to argue for their favourite players to use that excuse I guess.

We've almost scored 2 or 3 times and Gibraltar haven't had the ball anywhere near the Irish goal. Playing against two banks of 5 isn't easy so all things considered we have created some decent chances. Just lacking a little luck.

The biggest issue is we know the wind is strong but we're still lumping balls into the corners and hitting diagonal balls that aren't on.

We'll win alright but it's not the kind of performance that you want for the first game of a Euro campaign.

Simply putz there is far too many average, at best players out there in white. McLean, McGoldrick, Stevens, Maguire to name just a few.

He is supposedly a guy with ability and experience yet in a game we can, need and should win he is wasting his time going ape at the referee over borderline nothing decisions in midfield. Just STUPID !

I bet we will still get 4 or so. People are loosing the run of themselves. The wind out there is a big issue and we have it in the second half. Hopefully Mick is keeping them calm in there and they come out with a goal as quick as possible.

Yeah I’ve noticed a casualness about him. He’s nowhere near established in this side and needs to step it up

No he’s been awful, as have the rest bar Hourihane, sadly this seems to be as good as the Irish team is going to get, we have gone so far backward it’s all so depressing. It’s Gibraltar ffs and the nearest we have come to a goal is an almost comical O’Grady.

To be honest, I don’t think this Irish team will ever do Denmark or Switzerland on GD over 8 games, irrespective of today’s score. We can set up for 1-0 or 2-1/2-0 wins, but we simply don’t have the quality to score big.
