Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cannot see the point in paying 1.6 tax on them when the performance is pretty average.

I'd be looking at something like this, 1.4 is more powerful than the 1.6 Mazda engine and is a bit cheaper to tax:

Or this Honda Civic on the cheaper tax system:

That link isn't working for me.
They are certainly reliable. I had an 07 for a couple of years. Mazda generally have a bad rep for rust but my one was fine. Will burn a bit of oil, but probably not much. Not overpowered, but will allow overtaking and will cruise an OK,and will corner well (saloon model). Seats were a bit hard on mine, OK on day to day but on a long run the seats weren't very comfortable.
Overall its a fine car, generally reliable which is the question asked. If you get it at the right price, don't worry about the tax.

Thanks guys food for thought. What do ye think of the asking price, reasonable? Link working fine for me.

    Are you the OP?

My bad lol, thanks for the feedback. Those i30s are nice, seems to be little about in the petrol model.

I have a 07 one of those although with half the mileage of the one in the link. As mentioned, I've had a bit of rust underneath but it's been treated so it's of no concern. Not a single other issue in the ~4 years I've had it, passed MOT first time each year, due again in a few weeks. It's a fine car, not quick but not slow, I quite like the look of it too - the hatchback is fugly though.

The i30 only came out in 2008 and at that stage the newer tax system came in making the price difference between the petrol and diesel version smaller so the diesel became more popular. The 1.4 in the i30 has 115bhp compared to the Mazda3 1.6 which only had 100bhp. The i30 would be more fuel efficient too and is a newer design than the 3 which came out in 2004. Have a look at the i30's sister car the Kia Ceed also.

Ive had a similiar car 04 which my daughter drives now. Overall i find it an excellent car very reliable and economical. The only drawback if you have to buy anything from main dealer they fleece ya! I have dealt with that garage father and son team sound and do actually believe in customer care which makes a nice change. Anything theyre selling is of very good quality. Best of luck

Small thing but the i30 went on sale here in 2007 with deliveries starting in October. Agree with all the points you’ve made in the thread.
