Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Need to retake Irish test to be able to swop UK licence for Irish?

    Hi all,

I have an Irish licence but I have been living in the UK for the last 8 years.

I recently lost my Irish licence (just a few months before the 10 year renewal point!) and I have been exploring my options for getting a new licence.

The easiest thing for me is to get a UK licence here (the NDLS have given me a letter to give to the DLVA here that entitles me to swop).

However, Brexit stuff aside, I have this weekend heard from an Irish friend that if in the next couple of months I try to then swop my UK licence back for an Irish licence, I will need to re-take the Irish driving test? Anyone have any idea if that's true? Sound ridiculous!

    Thanks in advance.

It is as ridiculous as you think

the answer is "noone knows" It all depends if a deal on Brexit is reached and what that deal is. What your friend describes is really the worst case scenario.

Ireland and Britain always had special arrangements between them and I suspect they will agian when the dust settles.

Just to clarify, has your Irish license been expired for 10 years? Or has it only just expired in the last few? If it is the latter then you should be able to apply for a fresh Irish license without much issue. You may need to have a form stamped by the gardai given you have lost it.

@Alanstrainor, no Irish licence not expired yet - it will in October 2019 :)
