Advice on Appraising "old" Kit

Hi all,

Collecting dust in a wardrobe I have some photography equipment, a 1978 Hasselblad 500cm in full working order (well loved and cared for over its lifetime up to about 4 years ago) along with assorted lenses for same and other bits and pieces.

my query is this, is there anywhere I can go to get advice on the gear I have? or is it going to be a case of finding some Internet-based Hasselblad aficionados and getting their take?

For prices ? Or how to use it ? Prices wise the most accurate take you'll get is 'sold' listings on EBay. Compare with what you've got. What HAVE you got, out of interest ?

Prices really, not too keen on selling (nostalgia) but would like to have an idea what I've got as well (don't want to leave something worth a few bob rotting in a press!) will take an accounting when I get back and post.

Few Other bits and pieces as well but those are the main sections. I reckon I'll pop into Needful things and see if they have any thoughts on it.

Needful things ??!? What is that, a thrift shop or pawnbroker or something ? Just ... don't

If you want to give it away announce some exciting raffle here (or, y'know just give them to me :-D ), if you want to SELL them then research prices on EBay sold listings as above, and then put them up on adverts with a 50% markup (cos, y'know, 'adverts') and also list them on Ebay. You have a good set of kit there and assuming the body is ok and the lenses are all in good nick, it's worth a fair bit.

kinda of an antique shop in town, few medium format cameras on the shelves so was going to see what they thought of the kit but had a gander through past sales on on ebay and you're right few pieces have a decent € value, all in good nick (and was in regular use up to its previous owner passing away 4 years ago) so its more or less the same, though i think I can see the start of some mould on one of the lenses


not sure yet what the plan is but i doubt it'll be a raffle

Yeah selling them through some middle man you'll probably get about 50% of their value. Guy in the store will try and rip you off, and they have to have a markup as well for resale and risk.

Fungus on the lens, however, will tank their value. I wouldn't go near a lens with fungus. Might be worth your while having them looked at by a hassie specialist, it'll be expensive but they can clean them out and check them and you can advertise them as having had a recent CLA.
