definitely an option (Would 3 Gb VRAM cause issues with editing? ive only small experience with editing ) , but id still like to know if vega iGPU is an option as they are willing for the machine to grow with them .

apparently the more gpu horsepower would be more important.

cpu very important for editing in any case also.

for trying igpu simple way to do it is set it up with no dedicated gpu and see if it does work well enough...

AMD Ryzen 5 2400G with vega 11 might do ....

shown here with games (good indicator) and over-clocked

vega 11 a fair bit more powerful than vega 8

    Video editing, editing what?

    1080? 4K? 8? ProRes/Log/264? Composition size? Any AE?

    1. IMO that board + RAM is a bad idea. 16GB is a good starter but 32GB will be on the cards sooner or later. Get a 4 DIMM board and populate 2x8GB now with room to add more.

    2. More cores as far as 8, then faster cores. Once you hit octa core encoders see no benefit from more and you're better off with higher single core performance.

    3. GPU matters but not a huge amount. Your GPU is doing the live output work but its usually not encoding anything which in a budget rig is always going to be the slowest part of the process. QuickSync etc are limited so you'll end up burn testing your CPU when encoding.

    4. Budget for a decent card reader(s)

    5. An additional scratch disk might speed up scrubbing perf.

Cheers i never even noticed the 2 slots on the board i picked. The only info i have is that she will use adobe premiere, has a 4k camera , no mention of AE. I did tell them i thought the budget would be very limiting with 600 being the max.

They also mentioned looking at a prebuilt for about the same price, this is really all ive found, less/slower ram, better GPU/CPU but no mechanical drive

that's not a bad deal actually.

and only £30 more for an extra 8gb of ram and reasonable prices for adding a mechanical drive also.
