McGregor fans love knowingly speculating that he's "playing the game," like a salty old pug long past his prime, casting an expert but cynical, cocked eye at the sweet science.

Suspended ex-champion quits sport after making enough money to live off comfortably for the rest of his life?

He was entertaining to watch. Wonder will he join the WWE now?

. Since 2015 McGregor has fought in the UFC 6 times and lost twice. Its a testament to the power of social media and a rapacious 24 hour trash news cycle that a fighter with 4 victories in 5 years has amassed 30 million instagram followers and a fighting purse of 15 million dollars ( 5 million of which came from the clown show that was the Mayweather fight).
    .

Did he not make closer to 100 million from Mayweather?

So Conor, what do you plan to do with your days now that you have retired?

    Oi'll dew nuttin!

Nobody knows for sure what he made. There's all kinds of numbers online. He was guaranteed at least $30m with more on top depending on ppv sales etc (it did very well).

However he is under contract with the UFC so his earnings were split with them in unknown proportions. They could have taken more than 50% of his 'side'.

Not being a free agent surely bothers him greatly... Floyd made sure to needle him about that a lot during the promotion.

So 8 days ago, he was "eager" for his next fight in July, and today he's retired?

    Bull5hit!!

Prior to ESPN tv deal UFC would probably have been trying everything in their power to have him stay. Now that they're rolling in tv money they probably don't care.

Wonder does he do a few WWE appearances now like Mike Tyson did in 1998.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,825 ✭✭✭Relikk

As bad as WWE has been for the past 15 years, I'd hate to see them inviting him to work for them. The guy is car crash material and they'd be better off staying well away from him if they don't want bad publicity.

Big Mike someone spent his hundreds on millions very poorly

unless McGregor does, why the fook would he do anything other than shag himself to death

Neither really. I don't think I would like to see my daughter togging out and beating the **** out of another girl, just doesn't appeal to me.

Regardless of the sport though Taylor is a outstanding role model for young girls in particular . a fine soccer player too if you dont like the boxing

While the other lad is an example of how to be a bad person. Obnoxious Drug addled criminal.

if he is finished good but its unlikely he is

What we need is a battle for Ireland, winner is inducted into the nation's heart for all eternity.

McGregor v Taylor, 12 round boxing match.

He doesn't need to worry about drug testing now then, not that it matters much in that sport.

    Same as rugby these days.

    Could show up in Bellator.

Completely false, if a fighter retires they choose to be taken out of the USADA testing pool, if they were to unretire they would have to be tested for 6 months before they can fight again. As for "that sport", its easily the fastest growing sport on the planet atm.

Would still be soccer and probably always will be

Retired my arse. It's not the first time he's tweeted something like this, it just helps build the hype for whatever is planned next.

Nope. He's contract with the UFC has several more fights on it, it's just frozen, not cancelled, when he retires.

You do understand he is fighting the top competition right now, yes? It's very difficult at that level to win every single fight.

Minuscule percentage of prize fighters get rich.

Conor is already hiding in the US because he slapped a girl around. Having him in the ring with another one would be terrible optics.

Well, sounds like he's already got some of the training done then.

McGregor is indeed a blowhard but I'd be extremely upset if my daughter was a jesus-freak like Katie Taylor. Neither are people I would hope my daughter would aspire to be.

It was meant purely as a direct comparison between two pro fighters who come from similar working class Irish backgrounds.

I'm no admirer of Conor McGregor, but how many of you would call an MMA fighter a scumbag straight to their face?

Wonder will he do the rounds of RTÉ now

Appearing on dancing with the stars
    Celebrity bake off
    Francis Brennan’s home improvement
    Marty and Conor’s road trip

    The list writes itself

Not surprised. In an old Irish interview going back a few years, he mentioned he has no real love for sport and was purely in it to make as much money as possible and get out. I'm sure having a kid has only cemented this. Who in their right mind, with his bank balance would walk into an MMA arena again.

If you mean rugby league, then probably, if you mean being a Mod, we all get regularly tested, and it's enforced you have to be on some kind of drug before modding. I got done with no drugs just sniffing glue, but the admins accepted it thankfully. Took plenty of meth today just in case.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

    It's not rocket science.

Beat to a pulp? For calling an MMA fighter a scumbag? Would you ever get out of it. Conor McGregor doesn't give a sticky brown one what you or me of anyone else has to say about him.

Ha. Gas that people think calling him names would bother him in the slightest.

I’d fight and beat him no problem - let’s talk

Hes not retired, just building hype for the fight in July and more than likely the UFC isn't paying enough, giving him an opponent he doesn't want to face or just been his usual twat himself.

McGregor’s rapid rise from a destitute mixed martial arts fighter living with his mother to the U.F.C.’s most-prized asset has become one of the biggest stories in Ireland in the past decade.

    interesting line

Even tho he so rich most ppl see him as a knack job

What can Conor do to improve his image?

Marty and Conor’s road trip will only do so much
