Reckon the Dark Side Of The Ring episode will paint him in a much different picture

Yeah the dark side of the ring will be a more honest picture of himself. He should never have gotten to where he got in the business, and only did because of his look, and there were many guys with his look who weren’t complete nutters and could work to some degree and didn’t cut promos that made handsome Jimmy valiants and Randy savage promos in Memphis look like the script to Hamilton.

The self destruction of the ultimate warrior was one I wholly agree with and normally wwe DVDs are puff pieces and all fluffy. They got it right that time.

From what I heard they had a load of bums on that never met the man, his family, and current WWE suits with an interest in maintaining a certain narrative. Doesn't sound exactly stellar.

Which one the dark side or the A&E documentary ?

Looking at DDT variations, I have to say Gangrel's Impaler (Lifting DDT) is one of the best DDTs I've ever seen. I've seen other wrestlers use the lifting DDT but none come close to Gangrel.

I'm now conflicted as to which DDT is my favorite between the Lifting DDT and the Double Underhook DDT. I think the Impaler just about edges for me.

Does Balor make the WWE so much money on merch that he is worth keeping in NXT on main roster money.

He is just so stale and bland now it's hard to imagine he is an actual draw.

Accordingly he was sent down to NXT with full roster pay. So I guess WWE place some value on him being there. You'd think his merch sales would take a hit too from going from full roster with more eyes on to NXT with less eyes on. Who knows.

Mad tho about Finn. A few short years ago he was considered to be one of the best wrestlers in the world, huge buzz leaving NJPW and signing with WWE. But am sure his bank balance has increased 20 fold since leaving njpw :p

Twenty years yesterday the first WCW wrestler invaded wwf with Lance storm doing a run in on Monday night raw in what WWE stat is the start of the invasion angle. I remember being very excited for this WCW vs WWF storyline because of the ratings war in the years previous, but I think I’m not alone in being less than happy with how it went at the time, and when I’ve watched it back on the network it’s an even bigger feeling of a lost opportunity.

I don't think I've ever heard a single person say they were happy with how it went down actually, I wonder what the WWE wrestlers from that time think

Well neither have I but the phrase “there’s always one” can certainly apply to wrestling fans so I said I’d air on the side of caution.

And I know there were some things that wwf couldn’t work around like the time Warner contracts of the big stars who were getting paid to sit at home.

I think Booker T was one of the only wcw wrestlers to come out of the invasion in some ways not made to look like ****. I mean they threw DDP to taker and made him look like a jobber when he’d been one of their top guys and a former WCW champion.

Maybe if Benoit isn’t injured he goes to the alliance side and Austin doesn’t but then if Austin and the rock are on one side then it’s even more one sided then it ended up being.

Guys who benefited from the whole Invasion angle

Jericho (moved into the world title scene with his feud with Rock and then afterwards, well... undisputed champion etc)

RVD (should have had a rocket strapped to him, he was massively over at the time)

Edge (had his breakout singles moment first with Christian and then that fantastic match with Test at Survivor Series)

    To a lesser degree

Test (The immunity angle was the one thing that stayed after the whole alliance story died, he had a couple of main events on Raw and Smackdown against the Rock as well)

Booker T did mediocre, they ripped the WCW title off him and made him look daft a good bit though.

Rhyno would have been another beneficiary if he hadn't busted his neck badly as well during the angle.

Not making Angle the breakout face and instead doing his stupid about turn to join the Alliance to make up the numbers killed the entire angle deader than a lame duck.

This was insane at Unforgiven, the crowd was nuts - he was a made man!

Triple H and Benoit being injured for the whole angle sucked along with WCW's big stars still being tied into Time Warner contracts.

Have no idea about memorabilia collecting but how do the props/gear etc end up going to fans instead of say the wrestler getting to keep them ?

I'm enjoying the most wanted treasures series and always wondering this

Very simple really the wrestlers sold them to the fans for money.

A forum member in very high standing J. Marston asked in the Bella twins autobiography thread why the AJ lee promo is held in such high regard, and I’ll try and answer why(I may fail in this attempt but **** it I’ll give it a go) and it’s because her promo didn’t sound like a ****ing hostage statement is the primary reason. The level of promos in the main wrestling companies is woeful IMO. If I wanted to watch awful stilted dialogue read with the passion of a funeral, I’d watch fair city.

I mean a more recent example of how bad it’s gotten is whatever fever dream Cody Rhodes was going through when he decided to go on that rambling promo on AEW which was awful. The focus group and then not a focus group crap just shows that he can’t take any criticism.

I’m mean promos in the old days were more believable because they weren’t overly complicated. They had a simple formula and they got the feuds over. Who, when, what, and where. Who is the person fighting, when is this taking place, what match type is it, and in west town is it in. It was simple.

To sum up yes I’m down on modern wrestling because it’s bad. The spontaneity and ability to suspend disbelief is more or less gone IMO.

Just watched Kenny Omega vs Prince Devitt from 2011 (match is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lyQSFoXo48 if anyone wants to see)

Kenny, at least at that point, was the greatest wrestler in the world. That's saying something as Fergal was the greatest wrestler in the world at one point too. Just everything Omega does is awesome. It's totally emphatic and crisp you could set your watch to it :pac:

I like Balor , I do.... but hes IMO was never the greatest wrestler in the world. I enjoy some of his matches, hes no slouch in the ring but I never was blown away by him either.

Omega is on a another level.

I remember seeing him when he came over to OTT.

Everything he did seemed like it had purpose to it; even stuff like running the ropes and the shorter steps he took to make it look like he's moving faster.

    Incredible to watch.

If Vince sells even for a couple of billion does that mean Tony Khan won the wrestling war. ;)

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 28,633 Mod ✭✭✭✭Shiminay

The Khan family net worth eclipses the McMahon family net worth, so in probably the only way Vince understands, he's already lost it ;)

As I said in the spring cleaning thread I can’t see vince selling WWE while he is still alive. After he is gone, I could easily see it being sold but not before Vince is dead.

To come at your point from a different angle; could we theorize that this is Nick Khan's doing, albeit at Vince's instruction? Maybe he wants to cash out his chips now instead.

Why do wrestlers fight with unprotected jewelry?
I see ones with wrapped rings which makes sense, but then see ones with chains which could be dangerous to both competitors and see others with piercings. Most recent example was this week's Dark, I know Cherry said it looked like Statlander lost some teeth but watching it, it looked like the piercing was ripped from her lip.
Rhea had her ear ripped during her match with Io.

I'm sure there are more I can't think of but it just seems an unnecessary risk

How come we barely hear anything about ROH these days? Is the product that bad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,312 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Not sure who has the smaller roster between them and impact.
Funny thing is when I watch they have those insurance ads which star Ric Flair and LA Knight. Think Austin was in one as well

Giant Gonzales’ “look” was actually awesome.

Pairing him with the really small Whippleman was genius. The visuals of them both makes GG look about 20feet tall.

ROH, IMPACT and MLW really aren't up to much these days, they'd put you to sleep most weeks, not must watch in anyway. Like Dark and Elevation are above them in the pecking order of what US shows to catch any particular week for me.

Does anyone remember a programme they used to show on Bravo back in the late 90s called Bushido? It had bouts from the UWFI, a Japanese shoot-style promotion. I always remember the American wrestler Gary Albright on it. Maybe the first mayor of Suplex City, and his finisher, the full nelson suplex. Probably the only wrestling finisher that has ever made me genuinely wince. The thing looked utterly devastating, and there was no question of opponents getting up afterward. To this day, I do not understand how the move did not kill a couple of guys or at least leave them quadriplegics. I know the matches there were worked, but he plonked them right on their heads with ferocity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,576 ✭✭✭savemejebus

Now that AEW has signed Andrade, do you think Jericho will stop it with that awful Judas Effect seeing as there is now someone there that can make the move not look like crap?

It's not the size of the British Bulldog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the British Bulldog.

I've wondered for the last year or so why the WWE haven't thrown a huge offer at Jordynne Grace she is everything Vince loves in a male wrestler she has size she is a power lifter and she is a really good looking women and has lots of talent to dominate women's wrestling.

Maybe she was made an offer, and she refused.

Bulldog's height in an interesting one alright. When he was cutting his teeth apart of the British Bulldogs in the mid to late 80s, he and Dynamite were classed as small guys even though both were gassed out of their gourd :pac: Then again, was the land of Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Warrior, Bundy etc. If you were under 6ft2 you were small.

Fast forward to the new generation and 5ft10 to 6ft was ok. Which was the meat of Bulldogs career as a singles wrestler. Perfectly natural to think he was taller when mixing with the likes of Bret Hart, Michaels, etc.

But here's one to bend your noodle. Accordingly Owen Hart was only 5ft8. Would have pegged him for 6ftish and you just know if he was billed as that he was 5ft7 or 5ft6 barefoot in reality. Here's a picture of Owen at the king of the ring 94 and you can see him wearing your typical "1 inch sole" wrestling boots. Still not as bad as Kane wrestling boot tho :pac:
