The wrestling in AEW is so much quicker pace than WWE. The transitions from one stage to the next move much quicker. WWE feels like a lot of rest holds and selling on the ground.

AEW is such an easy watch promo wise and in ring style wise. Just goes to show WWE has gone rotten to the core from every aspect.

Its massively over produced. From the constant 3d graphics, to the commentators and talent reading from a script, to the almost zero storytelling, to the 50 50 booking where no one goes over to the vomit enducing camera cuts, to the WWE speak for everything, to..... i could keep going.

The only thing WWE have going is the talent themselves and they go out of their way to hinder most talent from becoming stars even though they are desperate for stars to be made.

As odd as it sounds, I wish more wrestlers were as hostile and less fearful of confrontation as Matt Riddle. He'll talk shít about anyone. We all know it's fake but it adds a little wrinkle of reality into things.

He had well-publicised heat with Rollins and Goldberg. A couple of years ago he put down all the old WCW guys (hilariously, in my opinion)...

And now he got in trouble for comments on Roman...

“Unfortunately, I said some things that some people may not have liked and I’m not going to mention names, but they didn’t like it. I won’t say it again. I get it,” he shared with a sly smile.

“Right now, all hail the Tribal Chief. Good for Roman [Reigns]. Acknowledge him. Everybody, acknowledge him, okay? That’s all I’m saying.”

Sounds like Roman had a little whinge. I hope Riddle keeps upsetting people.

  • Registered Users Posts: 48,990 ✭✭✭✭Lithium93_

Riddle's original comments could have led to something, especially with the Draft coming up. But nah force him to apologize instead.

    Roman fears Matt Riddle

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,250 ✭✭✭ThePott

I think Riddle saying "I could beat him up in a real fight" is a moronic thing to say personally. It doesn't make me think highly of anyone involved all it does is say, this is all fake but if it was real I'd be very tough, which sounds pretty pathetic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 48,990 ✭✭✭✭Lithium93_

Well at least it was something different, and not memorized from a script, before Roman threw his hissy fit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,486 ✭✭✭✭briany

Who was the actual president of talent relations in WWE back in the day. Was it Vince? J.R. (later Johnny Ace) was the vice-president of talent relations despite apparently doing all the actual work in that area. Always thought that was a bit of an odd way to work things, but maybe it had something to do with fudging the books or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭Pentecost

American companies can have a lot of Vice Presidents or Senior Vice Presidents of departments without each of them necessarily having a President above them in every area. Ultimately they'd all report to Vince.

Something different? I mean it's something different because you're not meant to draw attention to it. Breaking the established reality of the 'show' ruins the immersion in the product. Saying it in general would be dumb but saying it about the biggest champion in the company is even more stupid. If he hadn't said 'real fight' it would be a bit more acceptable.

It's just not a very smart thing to do, I don't mind when Riddle shoots his mouth from time to time but that was a moronic thing to say. I don't think it would have been from a script anyway as I'm pretty sure it was in an interview. Ronda said some comments like that previously and they didn't go down well either.

I'm not sure we even know that it's Roman as I could see anyone in the company being annoyed at his comments and in my opinion rightfully so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,254 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

    It was obviously Roman.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,250 ✭✭✭ThePott

    It was? How so?

It started yesterday but this must be the year with the least buzz around the G1 ever, at least in the modern era anyway.

Not really surprising, NJPW has not been very good for a while now outside of a few stand outs like Shingo, who might just be the wrestler of the year. His match with Ishii was great but booking Ibushi to lose to fcuking Yujiro Takahashi fairly sums up where New Japan is at the minute.

Thunder Rosa is the best wrestler in the world.

I watch a few of the vlogs some wrestlers put out like Sammy's, Danhausen's etc. and one thing I can't fathom are the fans gifting them expensive items all the time. It just seems weird to send expensive figures etc. to people who are most likely earning more than you. Similarly you see some fans pay to meet them at nearly every signing they do, it's very weird.

  • Posts: 13,688 ✭✭✭✭ Myla Plain Alternator

I've always thought the same about Twitch streamers/other online personalities that are earning ferry loads of money and still they'll get ridiculous donations and expensive stuff sent to their PO Box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,215 ✭✭✭✭B.A._Baracus

You're right. But these people have more money than sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭Pentecost

The Amazon wishlist thing has always been a bit strange. It's hard to avoid thinking these wrestlers are exploiting the fans to some extent.

The good looking women (and men too to some extent I guess) especially know that there will always be lonely (or worse) people out there who will spend money on them in the deluded hope of being noticed by them in some way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,178 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Fools and their money are easily parted the carny wrestlers will always shill and hustle.

A random though that Pro Wrestling Tees have been a big winner in the rise of AEW over the last two years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,254 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

The worst is the WWE cameos. €328 for a video message from Finn Balor.

29 left for anyone with 300 quid to burn.

    Would ya be well...

So you're saying you're not 1 of the 2 that are gone?

No, I'm saving up for Alexa.

It's a new weird era of fandom where celebrities are happy to give the idea that you're closer to them than ever before in exchange for cash and gifts. It's a dangerous game and inviting trouble.

  • Registered Users Posts: 773 ✭✭✭TimesArrow

Watched a few episodes of Young Rock. Really not sure what to make of it. It’s a sit com but basically isn’t funny at all and even as a hardcore wrestling fan, I appreciate all the references but overall it’s fairly dull. It’s even more of a vanity project and self indulgent than I was expecting and seeing Rock appear in every Episode is kind of distracting and makes him appear (in my view) somewhat arrogant as he prepares for a presidential campaign which may well happen in real life in the future. Love The Rock but there’s something grating about Dwayne Johnson

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 53,175 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

The word "stans" to describe the fans of the other side (WWE or AEW at the moment) drives me demented. It's all over every flippin tweet regarding wrestling at the moment. Twitter is such a toxic hellhole that should be nuked from orbit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭Pentecost

    Typical Facebook stan.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,306 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

I find it hard to warm to Dwayne as he just seems to be the ultimate PR machine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,178 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

What plans has Vince for Scarlett.

I like The Rock but he is sooooooo arrogant. You can see through that big fake smile he has.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,254 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

I love Rock, to be honest. He was the coolest man alive when I was a kid and I still think he's great, even with the kinda false Hollywood veneer.

I suppose you could say I'm a Rock stan.

Honestly if we as a society could drop kick the use of that word as a whole out of existence. That would be marvellous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,533 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

i can only thank this post once but i couldn’t agree more. This and a few more words need to be kicked to touch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,475 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Along with that word, Twitter in general and every one of these other modern day terms like "woke".

Can we keep the Stan song though? 🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,533 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Ah well keeping the song goes without saying @CastorTroy. I mean I’d like to think we are a reasonable bunch when it’s all said and done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,254 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

It may have taken 5 years but Corbin is finally kinda entertaining.

  • Registered Users Posts: 48,990 ✭✭✭✭Lithium93_

Twitter is useful if you just follow what you like/are interested in. Also, and not to turn this into something serious, but woke isn't THAT BAD a word, it's just been weaponized - I mean, is being aware of the world being **** a bad thing?

Also yes, the Eminem song stays.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,475 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Not saying it's a bad word but it, along with other words are now overused in both right and wrong ways. I'm sure "Don't be a d!ck" is a general message to use instead of using multiple other words.

Anyway, yeah Corbin is entertaining. Wonder if Grimes was a trial run for that gimmick.

This is one of most oddest Raw backstage segment ever.

Vince: Are you ready for some wrestling?

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,164 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

It was a parody of a NFL Promo. Are you ready for some football?

Karrion Kross doing well against Anthony Joshua going into the fourth round

Impact wrestling's camera cuts during matches are nearly as bad as WWE. Why any wrestling company thinks this is the way to shoot wrestling will always baffle me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,254 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

A random list of bests and worsts..

It's a toss up between MJF's armbar gentle arm tug and Charlotte's Natural Selection as today's worst wrestling finishers.

Lashley has the best entrance in all wrestling, absolutely badass...

Battle Cry is the best theme.

Wow a comment about current day WWE that's not negative

Hurt Business Lashley is bad ass

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,464 ✭✭✭Riddle101

Chris Jericho's Judas Effect is pretty bad too. I've never been a fan of the Canadian Destroyer, although it's not the worst finishing move out there. But it's greatly overdone and a bit ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,475 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

If pointing out the Canadian Destroyer, I find the Panama Sunrise a pointless variation. Like what does the wee jump from the ropes do?

I always said Cena's FU was a weak move. Oh no, he flipped them from his shoulders, what a punishing move.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭Pentecost

I freely admit to not liking most of what modern WWE presents but Lashley and The Hurt Business are excellent. It was madness splitting them up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,317 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

The wwe main roster UK ppv is really gaining a bit of attention and looking very promising

Talks of summerslam in the millennium stadium in Cardiff or Wembley

Definitely make the trip over but the wallet hurts thinking about it
