Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

2010 Mondeo - always starts on 2nd attempt?

    Hi all,

Just a quick question my 2010 Mondeo always starts on 2nd attempt - What might that be?

I'd just like to get it sorted - Runs fine otherwise - It's like the fuel system doesn't get primed in time - Its very regular (no variance in the way it starts) - First turn of the key you hear the starter going perfectly but engine doesn't fire - Second time it will catch and drive away....

I did notice it was quite smoky on starting also, not sure if its related - Is this a concern?

    Thanks!

You could have some failed heater plugs. Does it take two attempts every time or just the first start of the day?

    Thanks for your reply.

Definitely every morning and also after work when car has been parked up for hours....

What would be a good diagnostic test for this so might you think? Something like a retry after an hour or so and see if it starts first time?

Try heating it twice before using the starter and see does that make a difference. Also as you say, trying it again after a few mins would be a good test.

I had a similar problem on a 1.8 2010 Mondeo- turned out to be a dirty fuel filter

Could well be, I was assuming the obvious things had been checked.

Is it worse on cold mornings?

Are you turning the key straight away trying to start it or are you giving it a few seconds?

some cars have a light in the dash for the heater plugs, turn on the ignition, wait until it turns off and then start.

Thanks for the help folks - Said it to a previous mechanic but he was very non-commital and passive about this.

Not going back due to this and other issues.

I'll ask for a fuel filter change on next service.
