Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hive mind, trying to put a value on my car for the purpose of trading in/up.

Anyone hazard a ballpark on the following:

182 BMW 318i 1.5litre. Black Sapphire & Black Dakota Leather. Automatic.

Professional Media Package (professional navigation system and digital cockpit), 17inch wheels, Reversing Camera, electric folding mirrors, sports seats, Park Distance Control (front and rear), Adaptive LED Headlights, High-Beam Assistant, Apple Car Play.

    13,096km on the clock.

The car has been hand washed weekly and kept spotless inside.

Hard to find anything with the level of extras to get a good idea of what they are worth at this stage.

Trade in value will depend a lot on what you are looking to trade it in for as dealer will have different margins/incentives on different models and this will offer your various values.
    What are you thinking of?

You will be shafted on the trade in value on such a new car and the fact that the new 3 Series has just been launched.

Actually thinking about two very different cars. Firstly, a new 3 Series, probably high 40k depending on options. Or a tricked out eGolf Executive Edition probably low 40k depending on options.

I'm just wondering OP. How do you become bored with a car that's max 9 months old and yet want to go out and buy another one. Surely you'll lose a fortune on depreciation only maybe to end up with a newer version of the car you already have. I'm not having a go, I'm genuinely mystified.

It should also be noted that the current Golf is being replaced by the new Mk8 model later this year. Not sure when the electric version of the new Mk8 will be launched if at all but this time next year OP you could be back in a similar position of trying to trade up from an old model to a new one. Never a good idea to buy a brand new car that's being replaced by a new model unless you are prepared to keep it for a good few years otherwise you will just take a huge hit in depreciation.

I would suggest car is worth about 30k against either of these cars.
I wouldn't suggest going for the VW as it is due to be replaced very soon and BMW dealers aren't known for their charitable nature so prepare for a shock.

I never said I was bored? Just looking for something new. I would happily keep my current car for another few years and I'm a big fan of it but if I'm potentially in a position to get a newer model why not?

Just out of curiosity, why are you changing so soon especially as you say you like your current car?

    OP - I have a 171 318d Sport. Cost about €45k new in March 2017.

I casually mentioned trade in on the new 3 series and was told that I'd get about €25k!!!

Unfortunately be very lucky to get close to 30k in a trade in, not a chance near 30k as a private sale

Can be brought in from the UK for under 25k easy

Sure you can get a much better 330e for well under 30k all in vrt etc

BMW depreciate like rocks here as UK love them and are much cheaper to buy new to begin with

320i starts at 44k here vs 37k in UK

I'm not certainly changing just considering my options. Given what has been said here I probably won't. The idea of trading down to an electric came about because of the type of driving I do and cost saving it may have.

Your savings on fuel would be eaten away with the huge hit(loss) on your own car now.

No harm in visiting a garage or picking up the phone to the dealer where you bought your car to get a ball park figure. The 30k I mentioned would probably meant the dealer really valued your car lower but inflated the figures from discount on the new car. New car sales are tanking at the moment so you might get lucky but I don’t think it will be substantially more. I traded in an eighteen months old 330e m sport with extras that was 52k new and got 28.5k for it this time last year and used values have only gotten worse since.
