No , never need to reboot with the VU ,

But used to a lot with Zgemma and Tiviar boxes , but to be fair at that time I was messing around with Slyk and Blue HD Sky copycat skins , and I really do think they were to blame.

Also , always pays to make sure the EPG and ABM data never get downloaded to flash memory , always to the storage.

So never need to reboot on the VU+ but I think a lot of that is down to lessons learnt with the other boxes.

I run openvix with its default simple 1080 skin , I dont use any plugins except the ones already installed.

Evening all. My Epg Importer has failed to load any epg data for UK/Ireland the last few days and won't load anything manually now either. Other foreign country sources work fine. Are there any files I can download and put into /etc/epgimport by any chance? Rytec UK XMLTV UK/Ireland FreeSat/FTA (xz) Sky (xz) and Sports/Movies (xz) load zero events.

I need to get time to do a clean image install and set everything up from scratch to solve other glitches but wondering if this issue something others are experiencing. Is it a clocks changing issue?

***Edit. I got a rytec.sources.xml file online and put it in the /etc/epgimport folder and after a reboot the UK channels epg loads thankfully.

Might depend what image your on and if provider sources offer you an update.

My other box worked no problem last night. I dont use Irl Freesat but Uk N/I.

    I use OpenTv Epg Downloader

I hear what you're saying and perhaps there is a "fly in the ointment" on my box, but I feel like it even craps itself if I leave it on standby (the skin shouldn't make a difference then??)
As far as I know the epg is on the SSD.

When I get time I will try a rebuild. It's low on the priority list as the family are mostly streaming content these days.

Mine does the same needing a power off at rear then on when time stands still and remote or webif fails.

    Here's a weird one…

My Channel 4 HD keeps dying. After repeated experiments and flashing to the latest version I found out that ABM insists on deleting the "real" C4HD (8300) and replacing it with the SkyHD version (5246) which while technically FTA really does not like my new LNB one tiny bit, cutting out and artifacting every few seconds on a good day and not working at all most of the time. The only way to get the real version is to rescan the C4 transponder (10936V) but this deletes every channel on every other transponder. Then ABM kicks in and kindly replaces all the channels… killing C4HD again. To rub salt into the wound all my C4 timers are linked to 8300 and stop working as soon as ABM does its magic and the official forum is down for the foreseeable future due to restructuring. Anyone know of a way to stop ABM from misbehaving?

    Simple solution.

Set up your favourites bouquet , stick the channels you watch the most in there , it should be the only bouquet you ever use.

ABM does not alter the favourites bouquet ever.

If a channel moves transponders and its one of your favourites , you have to manually add it to favourites.

I went in to multiboot and when trying to go back to Openvix i got boot stuck on 49. Now the box on powering off using the rear while button powers on briefly and then dies, power supply issue as well as needing a recovery image? On power on using rear power button it boots to 49% gets stuck then power dies after 10-20 seconds. External power supply or internal issue?

    It could be either.

How old is the box ?

Is it the new or older type - internal or rear external hard drive ?

You could measure the output of the external power supply if you had a multimeter.

You could open the box and look inside for any damaged components.

You could remove the hard drive to check if it causing an issue.

I have the box since i purchased it in November 2020 from World Of Satellite, not sure if the new or older type but old type i assume, it has an internal hard drive.

I will try measuring the voltage and removing the internal hard drive as a start so thanks.

Image of box without cover is attached.

Looks like mine with internal hdd and my eyes dont see anything wrong with those caps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭dermo2014

    Its the older model.

By the way the power supply might measure 12V ok but only have a problem with a load (plugged into the box) on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 967 ✭✭✭downwiththatsor

Yeah the power supply does measure 12v using a multimeter as you predicted. Can anyone point me to a good source for a genuine replacement please?

    Would this work?

No mention on plug size for that model and only for early models , no harm to ask them. 5a is good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 967 ✭✭✭downwiththatsor

I just tried a 12 volt 3.7amp power supply and no change, powers on, boots to 49%, hangs for 20 seconds then powers off.

What are my options now I wonder?

***Edit 1. I put a recovery emcc on a USB and booted with power button pressed. FLSH appeared and then went to boot. Back stuck at 49% so not power supply related? It's not powering off now.

****Edit2. I am in the recovery wizard now using original power supply.

    Fingers crossed it recovers.

BTW what image are you using, is it a latest image ?

Also is your EPG stored on the hard drive and not the internal 4 Gig.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 967 ✭✭✭downwiththatsor

All back to normal now. Openvix 6.7.001.

Epg stored on hard drive I think.

To check your epg location go menu setup epg settings , epg location and make sure it says /media/hdd. And always check when you do an update.

@solitiare you would need to say how you have set ABM, image version and skin and do you update the provider files regularly. I use only SKY UK and have REGION as London SD Custom.

    Openvix6.6.012, Slyk Q skin..

As for signal that is a bit weird as both frequencies are on same beam and can you say make of lnb,

Can anyone recommend a replacement remote control?

The one provided is absolutely dire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,818 ✭✭✭swoofer

This has always been the case going back to 2019 and was raised many times. there are 3 choices.

1, the signal on orignial is weak and has to be pointed diectly at remote sensor, you can remove plastic cover on front of box

    2. look for new repplacemnent remote for agemma h7s on amazon. I got this one and its better.

    3. RC7140 R02 UNIVERSAL one for all but you need to have the manual for zgemma. On amazon as well

If you go for the one4all and if you get a chance you might update as to how you found the set up and the subsequent use compared to the original

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 532 ✭✭✭macjohn

On the remote - original is worse than crap. I use the (sony) tv remote to control the box. It does everything flawlessly- only thing it's missing is a file list type button so no way to access the recordings. I just press file list on original remote and then the tv remote can take over from there.

It does mean two remotes but the original one is doing very little

Morning all. I just changed broadband provider this morning. After reconnecting all of my smart plugs including the one for the box I am now getting this message. Am I in trouble?

    TIA
