Had cause to drive through Portlaoise last week. Christ the Main Street is destroyed there. All the shopping has moved south of Fintan Lalor Avenue. I guess with generous and free parking thats understandable. Is there any plan to regenerate the Main Street?

The library will be relocating to the old Shaws site on lower main street.

Around the corner, Fitzmaurice place is being changed from a generally unused area to a "green public park with a public viewing tower inside the Old Fort. The redevelopment will aim to shine a light on the history attached to the Old Fort Protector wall at Fitzmaurice Place."

The new "green public park" is costing 2.3 million Euros!

I passed by the new "green public park" yesterday,, it's just some raised flower beds. Maybe looks like €300,000 worth, makes you wonder where the other 2 million went.

There's about 10 acres of land with mature trees for sale that would have made a way nicer park than this mess. How long will the plants last in it?
