Are you in orbit? She only entered politics recently.

Exactly. Where was she for the years in between the last contest? What campaigns was she fighting for? What boards did she sit on? What has she done for her community?

I highly doubt she knew what CAP stood for 6 months ago.

The only swing connected to FG is the one Maria Bailey was on.
And Unsupervised , that went tits up !

If he gets elected he might have some interesting interaction with SIPO. Tax compliance would be the first item on the agenda.

He’s not a politician at all but he got 23% of the vote in the Presidential Election from nowhere just for highlighting the things other politicians are afraid to even mention AND he made a nice wee packet for me in the bookies.

We've been through this before. It's called populism any edgit can do it. Prey on people's fears and insecurities with pretend answers. Not hard

I'd expected people were wise to that even long term posters having a bit more cop on to see through that.

I don't for one second believe he's a millionaire. If he is why is he running for every thing he can throw his hat at? It sure as hell isn't a love for Ireland that's driving him.

Also, when asked if he'd give his salary away he said he'd pay for his children's education first. If he's a multi-millionaire surely that's already paid for??

Hard to believe people ridicule Casey while Maria Walsh is going without any mention at all. Walsh is a worse embarassment, Casey at the very least put money to go for president while Walsh has been AWOL for years and turns up on the eve of the election looking for a big salary because her money has dried up.

**** it, be selfish, vote for Lowry, vote for the Healy Raes, you might get a few roads out of it or something while you're at it.

11/12 years since the crash and these fools still getting voted in.

Sure there's a guy up here in Donegal who is on video accepting bribes, yet he got voted in again.

That's the kind of people who are given the vote ffs.

Same ones will be on next week moaning about other politicians.

    Couldn't make it up.

Maybe but I was amazed how Leo never mentioned the reason he got 23% yet is harping on all day about the Greens 7/8% and how he needs to work on green issues. Amazed.

Also hard to credit is people prepared to elect politicians who refuse to sit in parliament. It's not just this country that is a bit mad.

Leo and Simon are licking their lips at these results.

Watch out, they will try and pull a general election out of Micheal Martin first and if that doesn't work they'll pull the plug themselves.

The Greens are the only party they can go into coalition without getting criticised, Sinn Fein no, FF no, Labour - won't get enough support, same with soc dems etc.

But Leo etc. will assume everyone wants climate action so they'll vote the greens hard in the general election.

Does the Ceann Comhairle count as a seat Shane?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,375 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Casey would be doing well to win a seat in a Dáil election either. His approach and communication is poxy, 'hi I'm m a big noise in Murica and was on the telly, want to harass some travellers with me? His nearest existing template is Michael Lowry and Lowry has a 40 year history and a Tipperary mafia behind him. Casey would need that to crack the FF FG and SF organisations in Donegal (even Thomas Pringle is SF diaspora), and he's starting from nowhere.

He could carefully choose another rural territory where a big dog in the centre right may be retiring, but nowhere springs to mind.

He could have a go at Sligo Leitrim. Which takes in part of Donegal and half of Cavan. Currently two FF, one FG and one SF. They are mostly simple folk who are easily led:)

He'd get elected to the Dail in either Roscommon south Leitrim or Longford Westmeath.

You don't seem to understand that it's not about the candidate, it's about sending a message to the government because they aren't listening to the electorate. The more stupid the guy is the better so they get the message that it's about the message and not the candidate.

    No that's idiotic.

You want to send a message the talk to your councillor talk to your TD talk to your minister.

You don't send a message by sending a random gom off for a nice pension. You send nothing with that.

If the 'guy' can't get himself elected, are we allowed to take that as a 'message' as well?

Amazing to me that any sentient human being cannot immediately recognise Casey as an attention-seeking chancer. I suppose it's a sign of how desperate some of these people are for an Irish version of Trump that they'll abase themselves before anyone with an ounce of profile who says something vaguely disobliging about immigrants.

It’s Roscommon/(East)Galway since 2016, and I doubt he would as they’re small 3/4 seaters so not much room for him. They’ve their own popular independents: Kevin Boxer Moran, Michael Fitzmaurice and Denis Naughten if you still consider him independent. Though he tallied better than the exit poll, Europe is a different story to the Dáil. Rural voters want someone who has pride in the area and will fight for their area in Leinster House (giving rise to the Healy-Raes, Michael Lowrys and such). They don’t want some millionaire self proclaimed Messiah coming down from Donegal to save their county that he probably knows sweet f*** all about.

That would be my interpretation of it. The electorate is not stupid.

If you don't get a mandate from them, you need to refine your policies. It's a truism for anyone involved in politics.

3 elections, same shtick and same result for Peter now.
