European election I know but it hardly needs a new thread...Good to see grace o Sullivan challenging for a seat, be good too finally see Waterford get a euro seat, imo we should all be giving her number one, can do us no harm having our voice everywhere, Europe is the perfect place for greens, implement change on big stage. You can be sure of where cork and Kerry will be voting their number ones.

she is probably one of the poorest candidates in the field. awful to listen to and generally green policies are pie in the sky stuff. she will probably be my 4th or 5th pref

I listened to a panel of experts on RTE give their commentary after the debate, and the consensus among each of them was that Grace O'Sullivan did very well and would have definitely boosted her chances of gaining a seat - she's definitely in with a fighting chance for the 5th seat. Andrew Doyle was another who stepped up and did well.

The other person doing very well, at the expense of his party colleague Billy Kelleher, is Malcolm Byrne. Someone raked up a 20 year old story about him in the weekend newspapers from when he was in college in UCD which shows that someone is worried about him.

The planet's going/gone to pot, so maybe it's time for some "pie in the sky" policies being pushed in Europe, rather than the same old same old.

Am voting Green in Waterford East and Ireland South , I do hope Grace gets into Europe it’s pretty tight for last seat , she’s a definite shoe in though for next general election if she didn’t get Europe .

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,389 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

I'd say grace will be my number one also, but the greens do have a lot of work to do though, it's great to see the increase in green votes across the world, it ll be interesting to see how the 'green new deal' fairs out

She might be a strong contender for the next general election even if she does go to Europe.

Absolutely. And I feel the greens could be once again set to play a role in the next government.

I can see both the Green Party and Labour increasing their number of seats in the local elections. Greens will definitely get more seats in the next general election and I can see Labour adding a small number - but that's a cluttered socialist field at the moment.

I could see both having a role in the next Government.

I can't see a labour revival just yet, they've a lot of sole searching to be doing, and it doesn't really seem to be happening yet either.

    Who are the current socialists?

It's more difficult to see a Labour revival, and revival might be too strong of a word, but I think there will be candidates emerging through the local election who might push for seats at the next General Election.

You also have the Social Democrats, and the Socialist Party who go under the 'United Left Alliance' including People-Before-Profit and Anti Austerity Alliance etc.

Definitely giving Grace O'Sullivan my Euro number one, Europe is the perfect place for green decisions, plus be good to see a Waterford MEP.
Leaning towards giving the mayor the benefit of my doubt and voting yes.I was reassured by presentation, councillors will oversee mayor.its worth a shot.
as for local elections, no fg votes from me.

More or less my own opinion, would have liked to have made those mayor meeting's

For anyone voting Greens, they'll fill Waterford up with 3rd world immigrants to replace the smart people who've left.

We must start planning for being an island of 10 million people, including bringing people in as refugees in scale, not just 200 people, but a much larger number and managing it.

Fair annoying to see letters and references by coveney and others worried about their 'cork' MEPs.

Sounds like Lee Walsh... according to his election literature which plopped on my mat, the global elite have a plan to change radically Ireland's demographic makeup (you meant racial makeup there Lee, didn't you?).

His maths is laughable too. Half a million Irish residents born abroad do not make up "almost 20% of the population". Aside from which, you can be born abroad to Irish parents and move home, like my cousin and brother-in-law for example. We all know loads of people like this, but that doesn't fit the narrative of us being overrun by the Saracen hordes!

    Indeed lol

Last place on a ballot paper is worse than leaving a few blanks. It’s literally not possible for their vote to be transferred to him.
